Hey out there! I was just wondering if the Northwest flights will be added to our availability as well as the aircraft if the Northwest and Delta merger is approved? Northwest does fly the 747 and they have several routes to Asia. Any thoughts?

I think that means, in other words, any current routes that Delta (including Northwest) flies will be available. Hopefully this will also include the NW scheduled cargo service. I guess that means Delta Cargo 747's?

That would be nice for delta to have 747s again but they might just send them to the desert to be scrapped or sold to another airline

You never know, but NW Cargo & their 747-200's are profitable from what I understand so I doubt they'll get junked, and NW's 747-400's are way to new to get scrapped or sold if you ask me. A major point of the merger is to increase the international coverage for a larger Delta. I wouldn't think the international fleet would get minimized at all in a combined Delta / NWA just optimized. What is more likely to get scrapped / combined is the domestic fleet where route duplication exists. Just my .02 cents.

Well, I know Northwest runs direct from Detroit to Manila in the Philippines. That is a LONG-HAUL! I mean from LA to Manila is long, I mean it's all great circle route but still!

The one thing this proposed merger has going for it that the one for USAIR and United didn't, is the fact that Northwest and Delta do not " over lap" routes much at all. Delta being very strong in the EAST and South and Northwest being strong in the mid-west, northwest (who figure?) and international to Asia. Northwest west is only one of two (United being the 2nd) American airlines that is allowed to fly into Japan and then carry passengers on from there into other Asian destinations. Win/Win for everyone and that is probably why it willl not have the "Anti trust" issues USAIR and United had.

BTW, don't we already have a lot of NWA flights and aircraft available to fly now? Also NWA does not fly direct to Manila from DTW but stops in Nagoya Japan, for fuel etc and then on to Manila. Been there, done that RW a few times.

Wow Andrew, you know Manila too well. Are you from there or something? Philippine Airline flies non-stop Vancouver - Manila as well but they go through the pole so it isn't a really long flight...something around 12-13 hours only

That is a good question. I hope that we get to fly the B747 in Delta's routes.

IDK... we might...or Delta might change the 747 routes to the more fuel efficient T7
