There I was...cruising around the web and lo and behold I come across a page for the Sky Team Cargo Alliance (http://www.skyteamcargo.com/). I didn't know such an alliance existed. It pretty much mirrors the big brother Sky Team. But the Cargo boys are a bit different. Some of the airlines have dedicated freighter fleets and fly aircraft and routes their pax brothers don't. Unfortunately, DAL is not one with a dedicated freighter fleet. Nonetheless, this ol' freight dawg-at-heart is curious.

So before I roll the hand grenade in the room I did a two year search on the WC to see if this has been talked about and don't see anything. So here goes...

Realizing that a cargo operation brings a whole new set of issues and challenges has DVA management ever considered, or could possibly consider, the suggestion of adding a cargo division to DVA?

I'm just going out on a limb but unless the real world Delta is flying cargo then I would say they won' t be considering it. This is a simulation of Delta airlines and not the Sky team alliance. The only reason we have a lot of the flights is simply that they are codeshares.

I fully understand that and I not trying to stray away from the purpose and focus that makes DVA such an excellent organization. But I don't necessarily agree that the Sky Team Alliance is not modeled here. Its a very big part of this VA. Maybe not in name or branding but we certainly offer the operations and benefits of Sky Team membership to our pilots.

Delta does offer cargo services. As far as Sky Team is concerned, Delta does codeshare with NW, COA, KLM, etc... but it has to be a true Delta codeshare agreement for it to show up on our schedule.

Maybe someone else could elaborate on what constitutes a true Delta codeshare agreement.

Once NWA is merged into Delta, then you should be able to fly some cargo flights. If not, I'll be complaining right there with you. NWA freighters are making money while some of the main line flights are not.

Speaking of alliances and schedules, I hope someone is paying attention out there. We are probably going to be losing all of our Continental flights about the middle of next year, the way things are going. This will leave a big whole in our schedule as the Sky Team is not adding any major members in the near future. Meanwhile the Star Alliance will be gaining COA and will be able to offer alliance flights to almost every regional and major airport in North America because of the strength of the membership.
