I have a cousin who bought FS2004 one year ago. He's been getting really into it. He currently lives by MMGL airport in Mexico. He can only speak, read and write spanish. He has been wanting to join a VA but there aren't any good ones in his taste. He's come upon DVA but has been disappointed that the website was only in the english language. So what I wanted to ask is if DVA will have a multi language website in the near future? Such as some other VA's have it. He would be willing to join right away. smile

Although local languages are sometimes used in ATC communications, the default language of aviation worldwide is English. Controllers who do not speak this as a first language are generally expected to show a certain minimum level of competency with the language.

If a Mexican airliner is flying domestically then they probably speak Spanish with ATC. I'm pretty sure that's a common practice in other countries to.

There is unfortunately a disparity between the amount of work that should be done and the amount of time and energy available to do it. However, you are more than welcome to translate some of our manuals - we would appreciate it.

Cheers!

The advantage of having Staff from all over the world is that we speak a lotto' languages. This way, there's more solutions than "English is the language of aviation".

Tell him to shoot me an email if he needs assistance and I'll be glad to help.

Thanks, he joined and submitted his application. He lives near MMGL like I've said.

His name is: Alejandro Rodriguez

He just has to finish his questionnaire, i'll have to help translate for him the questions. I won't be helping him out of course, I want to see what aircraft best suits him. He had to leave and said he'll ask for assistance later tonight.

but sure I'll translate for him.

Gracias por la ayuda David. Lo bueno de tener otros Mexicanos aqui en la aerolinea. smile
Si, yo le dire que tu estas dispuesto a ayudarlo. Gracias.

By the way that website should be posted as a sticky for international members.

That really helps!

If my cousin posts in the water cooler would it translate it to english on the regular DVA website?

No

After reading the yahoo spanish translation, I feel the need to go up to the top of the building and jump from the 14th floor. That translation it's horrible.

Your cousin doesn't need to have an english language degree to join DVA, I'm an example of that.... and we have several pilots here that can answer him in spanish, we already did this several times.

Regards

Lol ... Charly is right ...some translators are humiliating ......and I think there is quite a bunch of great guys that would be more than willing to help , even if he posts in spanish....,I think anyone of them would be more than happy to translate for him... now Shane does have a point if he thinks of getting better and eventually flying online ,other than sapnish speaking countries , it would better his opportunities (RW, and Sim) if he practices English,,,just my 2 cents ..

Have a goodone

If he is interested in aviation, he really should learn English... as others have said, babelfish (and other translators) can embarrass you pretty quickly if you are relying on them for translation services. Are you bi-lingual Daniel? How are you communicating with him if he only speaks Spanish? I am going to assume you can speak the language fluently, or are going through a third party person who is doing the translating...

We have several DVA members who are native Spanish speakers who can assist him if need be
