Here is the kind of data I'd be looking to collect. Please note that the checkbox to disable the data submission hasn't been added to the dialog box yet, but it will be:

Does this seem like an acceptable invasion of privacy?

Cheers!

Maybe I missed an earlier thread so forgive me, but what is the purpose of collecting this data? I don't have a problem with it, but I just wanted to know.

From an earlier post by Mr. Kolin:

I have some broad questions about the installers I'd appreciate people's feedback on. I have the capacity to allow the installers to detect information about your system, and submit it back to my web server. This would give me the ability to see what kind of systems things are running on, to get a feel for what kind of hardware and operating systems you are using.

I am also aware of your privacy; I don't want to be too nosy, but at the same time this information would be very useful in meeting your needs. Would you be agreeable to this if I:

a) Made it optional, and gave you the option not to submit this information;
b) Made it anonymous; I'd create a Windows GUID to link this info to, so it would never be linked to your name or ID.

Does this seem OK, or should I forget it?

Cheers!

Luke
