I was looking at the setting on ACARS 3 and I saw there was a section that could randomly generate failures but it said they could only be used on training flights. I'm just curious as to why failures generated by ACARS are only allowed on training flight and not regular flights, wouldn't it make it more realistic/challenging if there was a chance something might go wrong on any flight?

I've never had a random failure on a pay ware. Usually any failure is caused by me screwing up somewhere along the lines

In maddog had 1 flameout (restarted engines everythin g else ok) and a low oil press warning, after troubleshooting with the manual came to the conclussion that it was just a faulty indication.

I like random failures, makes you be aware of everything all the time not just sitting there - sleep 4 hours - wake up and land.

I've never used ACARS failures, so I couldn't answer your question.

I've always used the failure engine of the aircraft I'm flying.
I've seen an APU fire, a pressurization warning, and a couple of others,
but the worst was pitot heat was lost under icing conditions on arrival. I had a really good controller with lotsa patience that kept me up to date with speed, and a decent VASI on the rnwy I was approaching.
