I finally decided to work through the Flight Academy and was struck by how much the manuals for new pilots had fallen behind the times. In particular, the Online Flying Manual hasn't been updated in nine years and includes information solely based on Squawkbox 3 in addition to such antiquated terms as "position and hold" - which hasn't been used by ATC since 2010. http://www.faa.gov/airports/runway_safety/news/current_events/lauw/

Is there a program in-place for reviewing these company documents to make sure they are still applicable as-written?

I do not know the answer to the question, but creating a help desk issue asking for the Flight Academy Manuals to be updated is probably your best choice.

eh... I was just asking if there was a program in place to update said manuals. If there isn't, perhaps there should be one implemented to review documents that haven't been updated in a fixed number of years. I'd hate to think I'd have to put in a help desk issue for every manual. eek

The manuals labeled "The Flight Academy......" should be current. note the Flight Academy ATC....the On line flying manual is out of date, you are correct... biggrin

Generally, Andrew Vane is in charge of the manuals, so he would be the one to contact, though filing a help desk ticket with your suggestions/comments/typos, etc.

Lawrence, we're continually trying to make the manuals better and more accurate. Any typos or other errors or out of date items you can share would be very helpful. You can make a help desk issue or email them to me directly. My email is in the Our Staff section. Thanks!
