I recently tried to download the CRJ 700 from the Fleet library. I ran into a problem because the installer was unable to find a home for it. Message " No supported versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator were detected"
I don't understand because it does show up on my computer under: Microsoft Games / Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Sim Objects/Airplanes. Is this because it is not compatible with FSX:SE? I hope that we can look forward to an update so all aircraft installations are SE compatible. Is this in the pipeline?

Run the Installer registry fixer from the fleet library first. Should get the installers looking at your FSX SE location.

During the install process I am asked to nominate a home. The thread is Microsoft Flight Simulator X - Subfiles are Modules and SimObjects. My guess is Simobjects but I don't want to mess this up. Would you confirm please?

The install process for what? The CRJ should only ever ask you to pick a sim.

For the install registry fixer, you need to specify the root directory of the sim. If you don't the installers will consider the location invalid.

I found FSX here: Local Disk(C:)\ Program files(x86)\MicrosoftGames\MicrosoftFlightSimulatorX. The installer still says "No Microsoft Simulator X found". I am confused.
I feel that I should be connecting to FSX:SE. I am unable to find FSX:SE in any directory. It only shows up on my desktop as a URL file "steam://rungameid/314160"

If I had to guess, you had FSX, then installed FSX:SE and removed FSX, which is why the installers cannot find it. I am not going to support a parallel install, but I can probably tweak the installers to support this case.

Look under C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\

Thanks Luke. I found it. Unfortunately it did not solve the problem. It still asks for FSX. Could it be because the installer is looking for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and not FSX:SE? Do we need a separate installer for FSX:SE?

Alas, I am back. I have tried:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\
and This PC\Local Disk(C:)\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\ . Program Files (x86) is the only folder that lists Steam.
and every other combination I could find with the same unhappy result: "No Microsoft Simulator X found".

Good question. That thought occurred to me. I start FSX Steam from a desktop icon that was put there when I acquired FSX:SE.
When I look up its properties the Type of file is shown as "Internet Shortcut (.url)" The URL as shown under Web document is: steam://rungameid/314160.

When I do a search , entering FSX.EXE, nothing comes up - it seems to me there is no such a file. Silly question: Is it possible that I need to have FSX:SE up and running when I try to run DVA Installer Fix?

It gets weirder and weirder. It's far beyond my comprehension.

Where are you searching? Open up a command prompt, go to the C:\ directory and type "dir /s fsx.exe". That should tell you where it is.

Thanks for being so patient. I think I have found it !
The only exe file I could find is - Steam.exe.old
It's located in This PC\Local Disk (C:)\Program Files\(x86)\Steam
I have tried that - no good. I tried adding \SteamApps - no good. Maaaah
Please stay with me. No rush, I am going to bed now. It's 1:57 am and I need my beauty sleep.
