If you can list what flight sim you use and the list of add-ons running when you run into issues, it would help to diagnose the issue. My system is a bit lower spec than yours and I have no issues running various add-ons, so maybe there is a specific combination you are running that is at fault for the OOM.

In the terrain section of fsx.cfg what is your LOD_Radius? Also what is your cloud draw distance set at in FSX display settings?

There are simple utilities that allow you to monitor your memory usage and this is what I observed on my machine, the chance of OOM to occur goes up the longer you run your sim, fsx will just slowly keep using virtual memory up the longer your flight goes, which is maddening as of course this leads to crashes towards the end of flights.
Have you considered going to directx10 ? I purchased a new compute for flightsimming, bought top line hardware and we really frustrated I couldn't run it the way I wanted because of OOMS, fiddled with settings and disabling this and that but nothing was very satisfactory I felt I had to sacrifice to much to get things stable. Anyway I went to directx10 and OOMS are a thing of the past now for myself, I don't even worry about them at all, I do disable/enable scenery depending on where I will fly just in case.
I run a heavy load on my system and high detail, pfpx, active sky, high cloud texture, ORBX sceneries, mytraffic, airport addons etc..... It took me awhile to get everything all dialed back in after I went to directx10, NVidia inspector and fsx.cfg file are setup differently for directx10, I also got the directx10 scenery fixer, but in the end it was more then worth it, my machine is nice and stable and my frame rate improved noticeably also which was added bonus. I get about 20 fps while sitting on the tarmac, and 30fps once I am off the ground.

FSX uses DX9 by default, but it also has DX10 preview which causes issues. There is a tool to fix the issues generated by DX10 Preview, but it costs money. FSX can not use DX11 or DX12.

I agree with what Mike said, there is a checkbox in fsx to use directx10 in preview mode, that is what you turn on. You need to do research on it, look up all the configurations/tweaks etc.. to do a directx10 setup. Like I said I have not had a single OOM since, and my FPS went up noticeably I would never go back. Money? you can buy the utility/fixer, I have the fixer but did not have to pay for it, you may not have that option. I have a pretty good idea what you must have paid for your hardware like I did, a few more bucks to make it run great, in my books worth it. Big thing is research on the configuration/tweaks. I wish FSX was just install it and play it but if you really want it to shine, especially with all the addons available out there. You need to be hmmm at least comfortable tweaking a bunch of things on your computer. And if you really want something that sizzles you need to be tech savy and dive into you bios, registry, etc.... I am very happy with my setup and scenery looks just about as good as anything you see on you tube, but I have poured allot of hours into research and then trial and error to see what works.

I have used this https://stevesfsxanalysis.wordpress.com/how-to-purchase/
Have to do some reading/investigating on how to configure it, but it worked well for me.

The most important one if you're just adding random tweaks is to add the line HIGHMEMFIX=1 to your fsx.cfg in the [GRAPHICS] section.

If you have the time and inkling you should really follow this guide. Post back here if you have question.

http://www.avsim.com/files/file/41-basic-fsx-p3d-configuration-guide/

Unfortunately configuring FSX is an ongoing process not an event. So by following the guide you'll also begin to understand a bit of what goes on behind the scenes.

Good luck!!

tried the tweaks supplied by avsim. did a 3 plus hour flight no crash. applies a few more tweaks now smooth with no stutters but frame rates drops to single digits at altitude with massive clouds. still working on it even though i did not start flight in acars.....

Hi Folks,
If you want to end your troubles with OOM,s. go to P3D. I ditched FSX, a couple years ago, best move I have ever made. At any rate use a VAS monitor.
Cheers,

Hi Steve,
The license is up to you. I have the academic. Keep in mind, at some time LM will go to a 64GB system. If you install the VAS meter, you can trouble shoot, and monitor your usage of FPS, and VAS memory. I run the PMDG planes, and All Obix, Rex, ASN, and lots more, landing with about 1GB of VAS memory.
