Ever pulled up a chart and you see yellow and orange all around? Now is the chance for you to help me create a new accomplishment.

I'm trying to put together a mountain approach type accomplishment where pilots fly into airports with mountainous terrain very close or nearby. I have a list going and I'm looking to find airports like this in the 48 contiguous US states for the accomplishment. I may grow it to all of North America but I haven't gotten that far yet. So, if you have any airports you can think of that meet this criteria, please post the 3 letter codes. Obviously, I have some of the well known ones like EGE, ASE, JAC, AVL. Looking for airports that get regular commercial traffic.

Mountaineer: noun, "Two men skilled at climbing mountains." < Monty Python joke there if you didn't get it.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Found another one that Delta has flights to in the past but not yet in our database: KTEX. I will definitely include that one in our database and the upcoming accomplishment.

PASI - Sitka, AK (not in lower 48)
CRW - Yeager Airport - Charleston, SC
CIB - Catalina Island, CA (I don't think Delta flies there, posted just in case)
TEX - Telluride, CO

Those are the ones I can think of. One of my favorites is Yeager. It literally sits on a leveled hilltop.
Telluride is also awesome. It's one of the tutorial flights on FSX, and that was my first exposure to it. It's pretty fun.

Thanks for the contributions. I can tell you some never had a history of commercial flights. However, Catalina airport used to receive Pacific Air DC3 flights from what I can tell. They were absorbed by Bonanza air and eventually Hughes Air West, an historical airline we have here. There are 3 I need to investigate. Stay tuned and I'll work to get these up there in the next few weeks or so. TEX actually had E120 Delta Connection flights from what I can tell.

PSC on my list. Found a few others too and some I cannot aid because Delta or its codeshares never flew there. Some are too much of a stretch to make "historical" unfortunately. I am adding some Alaska Air historical flights to some destinations within the DVH schedule.

Which Charleston Josh? KCRW is built on what is left of a 'mountain'...so much so the EMAS end of Rwy 23 slid into the valley...

I think there is some confusion here between Charleston, WEST VIRGINIA and Charleston, SOUTH CAROLINA.

KCRW (Yeager) is the airport in West Virginia and is somewhat "mountainous," IMO.

The airport in Charleston, SOUTH CAROLINA is KCHS and is not mountainous at all.

Hope that helps clear the air...

I miss the old HKG bill-board approach, a truly goofy approach in a whale. Looking back at my 1987 NWA Recurrent Training guide SAN DCA RNO BHM MSO were the "...required domestic special airports." per FAR 121.445 for the 757/272 crews. Hilo & HGK were 747/DC10 'Specials'
