Hi everyone. Specs. Are....i56600k @4.4ghz, gtx1070,16gb gskill ram ddr4 3000. I have read to set vsync to 1/2 refresh rate and setting 30frames in game. I seem to have alot better performance in Fsx steam with vsync off in nvidia inspector and unlimited frames in game settings. What do you all use for this setting? Thanks for any input you may have. Happy flying

I've heard FSX/P3D doesn't actually recognize V-sync at 1/2 refresh rate. If your monitor supports a 30hz refresh rate then use that and run V-sync at full refresh rate. If your monitor only does 60hz (like mine) then you either need to maintain 60 FPS with full refresh rate (not likely) or don't bother with V-sync.

I've found setting Target FPS in the simulator to "unlimited" and then using an external FPS limiter like the one in nVidia Profile Inspector or a program like Dxtory is the best for people with monitors that don't support a 30hz refresh rate. Set the FPS limit in your external limiter to just below what your system can comfortably maintain in-sim. So if you are able to pull 40 FPS pretty consistently then set the FPS target at 38, etc.

Hope that helps!

On a side note, why vsync tends to eat performance is because it forces rendering to wait until it shows the next frame, so that it syncs with the monitor (think of it as start, stop, advance, wait, go every render frame). It basically is supposed to eliminate flickering on LCDs of days gone by. Its no longer an issue. I still run vsync on some games just for giggles.

So typically you want it off unless you are trying to fix visual issues OR you have sensitivity to LCD flicker. Some people are more perceptive than others and need it on... As I said above, I have it on for a game I spend 14 hours at a time starring at (don't ask, I don't have a life, vacation due to sickness)
