This is probabaky something that has been talked about before but what is the best way to reduce your VAS in P3D. I don't usually have a problem with it since I fly shorter routes but the other day I flew from PANC to KSEA and was getting a low VAS warning as I was approaching KSEA. I use the PMDG 737NGX, ORBX Global, ActiveSky 2016, and ASCA. I know addons definitely use up the VAS so is the best solution to just not use them or can you tweak settings to get better VAS usage? VAS is a newer concept to me because I never had problems with it until I started using P3D.

What GeForce driver version are you using? The latest are known to leak VAS in P3D.

from my recent issues: 376.33 are only for p3d; there is no leak on fsx. still, it WILL gain you 100mb (not sure why)

vector (roads, rivers) can easily eat 400-500mb of vas. if you have any scenery that models roads et al, that could push you over the edge in many areas. less of an issue in p3d but photoreal scenery will still eat background space.

I recovered 1.1GB (!!!!) of vas space by removing airports that had vast photoreal areas and editing vector complexity the other day. this will not be universal of course. some areas will still load you up, but my offending area gained over a 1 gig. most airports nowadays have photoreal surroundings and they all eat a little (way less in p3d than in fsx) of memory. even if on the other side of the world. it seems p3d is easier on scenery than on aircraft vas. that is to say, planes will eat way more in p3d than scenery would vs fsx.

the day 64bit comes along will be a jumpstart to this hobby. so many people have given up because they cant run all their addons at once. just like lot of us gave up back when we couldn't get any decent framerate

Turning off Intel CPU Hyperthreading in my BIOS and making sure my LOD_RADIUS was at or below 4.5 pretty much solved OOM for me.

Hyperthreading will do nothing whatsoever. It is a CPU instruction (that is defunct on 64bit systems) and has to do with the CPU crunching numbers. Has 0 interaction with the memory.

You solved it by turning the LOD down and making the game blurry further than 10 feet in front. Sadly, some people can fly that way. I cant frown Anything under 5.5 makes me want to remove the game again. 8.5 is best imo but that's for general aviation flyers only.

Full option ORBX vector (or UTX I suppose if people still use that) can easily eat 400mb in the right locations.

Your sim will start at say 1.1 with the trike. Load something else you are up to 2-2.1
Load the normal departure scenery, add another 1gb. So now you are 3.2ish. Even if it says less than that, it will go up.

Then you start flying and you have parasitic load and left overs. 3.4-3.5

Here comes approach and time to load the arrival airport. That can be 800mb easy. Even if the APT isn't that big the game will overallocate for all objects and what not. Most people forget many airports have a "library" scenery section that is loaded in as well. IDS FLYTAMPA 29PALMS ORBX all use libraries that go on top of whatever product of theirs. 25 miles 15 10 5 miles are the main loading points. 200mb for each typically.

So lets do the math again. 3.4 + 800 = 4.2 aka no go.

But dropping vector down (remove streams, 3rd roads, power lines, railroad tracks etc) and you can save 300mb. You are back at 3.9 without having to touch LOD or scenery density.

(all this assumes 0 AI traffic, little to 0 airport vehicles and 16% car road traffic. AI cars on highways and primary roads only)

And of course an even simpler solution without doing or tracking anything down is to just use the right plane for the right location. Find a light plane and go into heavy areas (or between them). It always bewilders me the lengths people will retard sim settings just so they can fly <insert heavy vas plane here> into <insert heavy vas scenery area here>. At the end, they ruin the nice scenery by making it look horrible and they still reload the sim before TD because still they are on the very limit... That's no way to fly imo. That's just aggravation.
