Hi Folks,

after realizing that I haven't logged a flight in almost 3 years and increasingly feeling itchy to fly again (working in a project at EDDF doesn't help) I am unsure which way to go.
I used to fly with FSX and am currently in the 767 program using the leveld 767, but I feel like prepar3D might be the better choice for the future. So this is the first decision I have to take. This is even 2 questions:
1A: FSX or Prepar3d, where I would also have to think buy prepar3d now/soon or wait until it is 64-bit... don't know the official roadmap on this topic
1B: 767 program or whatever is available in good, deep payware for the chosen sim (I doubt that prepar3d has a good 767 with in-depth systems). I intend to get the 747 and the 737 from PMDG as well and maybe will be switching programs.

Second one would be the fact that I am planning to built a complete new system (I have had this mission for the past 3 years now) and have the decision to make between 4 cores and high clock-rates (like I7-7700k or i7-4790k) or 8 cores and not-so-high clock-rates (like the new ryzen 1800X) with thinking that any update on prepar3d (if going for it) would make use of more cores. The sim would also not be the only program running on this machine (I used to game a lot in the past, and this will be true again once I have a computer available).

It might take some more weeks or months until I finally get the time to build up the system, but any comment would be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hi Angelo,

My non-expert 2 cents:

1A: FSX Steam Edition is much more smooth than the original FSX boxed edition. I have it running well on an I7 2600 with 8GB RAM and 2GB Video card. I barely use the video card resources. The i7 is 8 cores (4 plus 4 virtual). P3D will need a workhorse and 16GB of ram. But, it looks better than FSX from the screenies I've seen. I believe its the sim of the future too.

1B: I don't know about the Level D for P3D but the FSX version (ported FS2004) is supposed to work well. I have the Captainsim 767 and its pretty good for FSX.

Take it for what its worth. smile

Got to be honest, If you love your 767, and why wouldn't you, stay on the SE side of the sim.The Level D 767 is hit and miss coming to P3D. I have made the move to P3D and it is great but still has OOM issues with eye candy software (ftx, utx, payware airports, NGX & Weather). P3D has mentioned a 64 bit software but that really is the extent of it. They mentioned it. No ideas on releases so as far as computer components go, get a great video card first and foremost, at least a nvidia 970. Get SSD drives second and then choose between the 4790K or some of the newer chips. I build software so I do have a multi function machine and I do use the 4790K and its great!

Good luck and look forward to seeing you in the air!
