To share a success story for those looking to build a high performance PC.

I completed a new PC build this weekend and have achieved P3D v4 excellence. With all sliders far right with ASP4, AS Cloud Art Hi Res, PMDG T7 or DC-6, I am getting 50-80 FPS in the cockpit and 150+ externally. What did it take?

Intel i7-7700K kaby Lake CPU
Cool Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler
EVGA GTX 1080 4 GB video card
16 GB GSkill Tridentz DDR-3600 RAM
MSI Z270 Tomahawk OPT Boost mother board with 16 GB Optane M2 memory boost
Seagate Hybrid 1 Tb drive
Corsair 650w PSU
Rosewill ATX gaming case
Windows 10 Pro

All for just under $1,100.

That CPU and GPU combo is pretty much the answer to getting good performance. Awesome build, man!

Haven't been in WX yet but at both LAX and ATL with 100% traffic there has been no fall off in FPS.

That's awesome! I've actually been trying to talk myself out of building a new computer, and I've been (not-)looking at a lot of the same hardware. Are you overclocking, or are those specs with stock speeds?

I've never dabbled with it thus far, but I was thinking about making a new rig to try my hand OC and water cooling... and then eventually see what kind've awesomeness I can coax out of P3D

You should try FS9. I found out that FS9 has 1000fps bug: fps counter is unable to go past 999. Rig has 7600K CPU and 1050Ti GPU.
Otoh I drop to low teens at NL2000 EHAM and FSX.

I have a simple Kaby Lake i3 and a GTX 1050ti and crank out about 40-60 in cockpit and 50-85 outside. Seems like P3D and Kaby Lake go well together. smile

Tyler,

Sorry for being slow getting back but every thing is running at stock speeds. I'm not an over-clocker but all these components are OC freindly. The video card is running at about 45% capacity >50 degrees C. CPU is running on all cores at about 70 C.

Tyler. I am running a 6 year old machine that I built and I am getting frame rates etc that exceed the OP's machine. I am running at only 45-50C at 80 degrees F ambient temps. with air cooling. The only thing I have upgraded since I built it in 2011 is the GPU. CPU is a SandyBridge i2500K OC'ed to 4.3 and a GTX 1060 GPU.
Just saying that the newest and best may not always be the best.
Enjoy your new rig.
Bob G.

I totally agree. You will get the best option when you run your system at the required of the program. Just make the best adjustment.

Thanks for all the feedback. I agree with those that said that it's not always necessary to upgrade. I get that. I just haven't built a computer in quite some time, and I've been feeling the itch ;-). I'm really glad to see all of the positive feedback on the Kaby Lake CPUs.

To the OP, congrats on the great performance!
