Greetings! We have been having some internal discussions about acceptable percentage or hours of online flight time. Below is what we are going to implement regarding what quantity of hours a flight qualifies as an online flight.

1. For typical flights, a pilot must be connected to vatsim/IVAO for a minimum of 60 minutes for the flight to qualify as "online". A controller may or may not be present at the time of the flight.

2. Flights 60 minutes or less will have to be online for the entire flight to count as online.

3. For online events, pilots must be connected for the entire flight. Exceptions can be made for trans-atlantic group flights through the night.

4. For Flight Academy flights, 100% of the flight must be online in addition to other guidelines spelled out in the check ride.

5. As with all guidelines, staff members reviewing a flight report can make a judgement call. For example, a staff member might approve the flight as "online" when the pilot flew only 57 minutes of the flight online or he may not approve it as online. Or, a staff member might approve a flight as online if the flight was 45 minutes but VATSIM recorded only 43 minutes of the flight online.

If a pilot would like online credit, he should truly make every attempt to fly the entire flight online. We recognize that sometimes events outside our control may prevent this (crying baby for instance). smile

Hopefully this will give a bit more clarity and consistency with the flights. Some staff will think its too generous and some will think its not restrictive enough. Since most who indicate online were online for 95% of the flight or more, they won't see an impact to this guideline. Eventually we will get this guideline into the pilot manual.

If pilots have any questions, feel free to email me or create a help desk issue.
