Wanted to post this to give some direction for those seeking help be it in ACARS chat, the water cooler or the Help Desk. We all on staff are happy to help. Giving back to our group and flight sim community is what inspired us to serve on staff in the first place. We get a good number of help desk questions from both old and new pilots here. To better serve you, I wanted to provide some useful tips that will get you the answer you need and get you back flying:

1. The Help Desk is one of your biggest friends here. It lets us track issues, convert to web or acars issues for the developers, and we even have some stock answers we can cut and paste since your issue has been asked before.

2. Provide as much information as possible about your system and what errors you are receiving.

-If you are having an issue with the web site, provide your OS, browser, what you're seeing (screenies are good), etc. The simpler the question, the more questions we'll have to ask to root out your specs. If you're having an issue with payware, its good to use the cooler since we on staff do not own all the payware. This goes for XP questions and P3D questions too although if you create a Help Desk Issue for XP, Soonho will be able to track the issues and answer you for all to see.

3. The essential elements you need are your FS program, FSUIPC latest version (http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html), latest ACARS version, and some important external free programs like Simconnect (found in your FS folders) and an updated Microsoft .net libraries. About 95% of the issues people have is because they have not installed the latest version of these programs. FSUIPC 5 is essential for P3D 64 bit.

4. Search the help desk (and the cooler). Chances are someone has asked your question before and an answer has been provided. Google can be your friend too. smile I ran into this recently when I was trying to calibrate my toe brakes. Someone posted in flightsim.com forum how to calibrate it to make them work well (sensitive up and dead zone down). Problem solved in 10 min!

5. Back up your system. As Eric Haack recently posted, restoring from a backup is a good way to fix problems that were not occuring earlier.

6. I say this last since nobody will do it rolleyes but a lot of questions are in the documentation we have in our document library. The Pilot's Manual is a good reference for how we run DVA. The Flight Enyclopedia is a great reference too. Wanna learn more about real world flying? Take our Flight Academy Courses. For new Pilots, I am updating the FAQ. its sorely outdated but we will be posting a new one soon.

Again, we are here to help. Providing as much info as you can about your system and the problem will help us help you better. smile

Thanks for your support and encouragement to others here. We have a unique group of flight sim enthusiasts here. Like most activities and groups, the more you put into the community, the more you get back!
