I saw in DVA ACARS that "PA31" is an equipment type that you can select, but how do you get this type rating? I looked in the pilots manual and couldn't find any info on it.

it is an additional rating. Go to pilots lounge, slide down the page to the link "request additional ratings". once you click you should come to a page that has a drop down, select the aircraft in the drop down that the PA31 (should be the EMB120ER) is in the group with and it will be added to your list of planes you can fly. hope this helps
