I haven't used Flight Simulator 2004 for quite some time. When I tried to start it recently, it would not start. I fixed that by replacing the FS9.cfg. It starts up now, but when I start a flight, the screen flickers back and forth between screen resolutions and then crashed to desktop. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Have you made any major changes to your system since it last worked correctly? Upgraded Windows, new hardware drivers etc? Because FS2004 is over 15 years old at this point, any of those sort of changes can be a crap-shoot as far as compatibility. With the flickering and switching between screen resolutions it almost sounds graphics driver related.

Windows updated to Windows 10 during the period Flight Sim 2004 wasn't in use. And I haven't plugged in peripherals like the yoke, throttles, and rudder peddles yet. Otherwise, no system changes.

if you still can't get it to start up, rename your f2004.cfg file. FS2004 will create a new default one and it should start up. Then you can copy in any stuff from the old one as needed.

that update was specifically for win 7 that broke fs9, you would navigate to windows update and search for the update in the querry box and remove. Windows 10 caused a lot of problems with fs9 Some people i know have it running, Im still on win 7 64bit myself running fs9

As andrew states have you renamed your config?

The upgrade to Win 10 could have been problematic for FS9, especially if it was not a full Win 10 install after a drive 'nuke-n-pave'. When I tried to do the Win 10 update from Win 7 on one of my computers using the option to preserve my existing programs, it caused more problems than it was worth with a lot of my games so I decided to wipe it and start from scratch.
