The Ford Trimotor 5-AT is definitely a classic historical aircraft. In 1926 Northwest Airways operated the Ford Trimotor mostly delivering United States mail. They flew out of Minneapolis very early years of the airport, flying to Chicago Midway. On September 15 1928, Pan American Airways operated daily passenger service from Miami Florida to Havana Cuba with a stop at Key West Florida. The new schedule extended Pan American Airways service which had daily flights from Key West since October 1927. This new route carried United States postal mail which was under exclusive government contracts which saved the government one full day of delivering mail from New York City to Havana Cuba. The flight from Havana Cuba would return to KeyWest Florida the same day.

The Ford Trimotor had a limited range of 510 statute miles (443 nm). The flight leg trips would have to make stops in between routes since the aircraft range was pretty short. The maximum passengers that could be on the Trimotor was 11. The Ford trimotor operates on 3 Pratt and Whitney Wasp engines with a cruise speed of 90 knots (100mph). It brings a new meaning to low and slow. An interesting fact about the Ford Tri motor and a screenshot above has this, the engine gauges were outside on the actual engine. This forced pilots to look over their shoulder outside at the engines to check the oil pressure and fuel quantity in the left and right engines. The center engine (front) has the gauges inside the cockpit.

Another fun fact, the Ford trimotor was in a popular older classic movie, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. smile

DVA operations is happy to present to you all, the Ford Trimotor 5-AT as an additional rating to the DC-6 program here at DVA. To request the additional rating just go to pilot center and click on request additional rating for the DC-6 program and the rating will be issued.

The Ford trimotor supports all sim platforms including X-Plane 11. Xplane 11 is a payware aircraft which is only $20. For FSX/P3D users there are some good freeware and payware options. Freeware on flyawaysimulation, simivation, and payware on simshack. The payware for FSX/P3D costs roughly $22 from simshack.net.

Fs2004 has the trimotor as a default aircraft.

The routes which were added and can be found under Pan American Airways on find a flight are,

PAH 3830 leg 1:KMIA-KEYW
PAH 3830 leg 2:KEYW-MUHA
PAH 3830 leg 3:MUHA-KEYW

We hope you enjoy the Ford Trimotor as the newest addition to the DC-6 hangar and the historical fleet.

What a classic aircraft. I saw the "City of Philadelphia" (Lao Che Airlines) at the "Fantasy of Flight Museum" west of Orlando!
There used to be one at the New York 1965 World's Fair I remember seeing as a kid. Wonder where that one went?
I found this TriMotor site and was wondering if anyone knew of it; http://www.ford-tri-motor.net/frontpage.htm
Can't wait to log these hours and the FS2004 model was fun to fly. Thanks.
