Hi there.

I’ve ordered a new PC to run FS 2020 and have a question on the choice of monitor to go along with the graphics card 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2080 SUPER.

I was recommended an AOC 34” ultra wide monitor - see below- but have read on some forums that using an ultra wide for flight sim whilst increasing the field of view but the downside being that this leads to significant a fish eye effect. I really don’t like this type of effect as feel it reduces the immersion so am now leaning to a more traditional 16:9 4K monitor .

I’d appreciate your thoughts. Does anyone have any experience of running a 34” ultra wide and does the above ring true? Does anyone have any monitor recommendations?

Thanks
Donald

Hi Donald, it does looks very nice, however, I do not have any experience with this type of monitors. I do have a regular 4K 46" (HDMI) VIZIO TV and have bee using it with the the GEFORCE GTX 1080 for a long time now and I have to say that I have been very happy with the results and when I bought it at costco the price was like $349 (now they are even cheaper).

Donald;
With that Graphic Card you deserve a good monitor for sure. This is my monitor with G-SYNC and all the goodies. I wouldn`t go for VA Panel. I would choose IPS.

https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34GK950G-B-gaming-monitor

I purchased when B&H had in promotion: https://slickdeals.net/e/13640137-lg-ultragear-34gk950g-b-34-21-9-curved-g-sync-ips-gaming-monitor-590-free-shipping-589-95?attrsrc=Test%3ASearchApiIntegration%3ASearchApi&src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1

I know it is expensive, but you will need to go for something good with that Graphic Card.

Thanks Guys. I’m coming round to getting one of these Samsung G7 32”. Would this be a good buy and do my GPU justice?

Donald,

I'm running the 8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE RTX 2060 SUPER with three ViewSonic VX3276-2K-MHD 32 Inch Frameless Widescreen IPS 1440p Monitors with HDMI DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort connections. I'm running them all at 1920 x 1080 on FSX-SE and I'm getting over 30 fps with stock scenery and about 25 fps with Addon scenery from Flightbeam Studios and FS Dreamteam Airports and GSX ground services. I have a Ryzen 3700X with 32Gb of low latency 3200Mhz memory. It is outstanding. I use 2D panels for my aircraft and there is no "fisheye" effect at all. It's nice being able to see the airport out of the quarter view to the left to judge turning final on visual approaches. And at $279 each on Amazon, they are well worth it. Don't go with a single display. With MS Flight Simulator 2020 coming out, I can't wait.

I also have X-Plane 11 and with a 64-bit program like X-Plane I get the same fps rates running all three monitors at 2K each. That about taps out the 8Gb of video memory on the RTX 2060 Super but my wife watched while I was flying and said "Now THAT looks real!" She has never commented on FSX before. And with the 1/4" wide bezel on these "frameless" monitors you never really notice them in the view. You probably don't need 4K monitors (the 8Gb memory of the card limits you anyway) and the three 2K's I bought provided a fantastic view at 1440p.

Love that setup Chris! What's behind it? I remember years ago trying to hook up a 2nd monitor showing another FSX screen/window and it brought my system to its knees.

Hey Bill. So in order for me to get beyond a two monitor setup with my video card, I bought a device called, Triple Head To Go. It takes three monitors and merges them into one large display. With the new technology, I'm not sure it is vital but I still use it bc its easy.

Have Dell U3421WE (3440x1440px) as main Monitor. Works like a charm, just set Wide Resolution in P3D Sim Settings and everything should work well.
In FS2020, I didn‘t have to set anything special. Just worked out of the box perfectly fine.
