I recently got back into FSX and flying with Delta Virtual Airline and I see that the real-world weather doesn't work, so I'm trying FSXWX. I notice that on a long flight, after a couple hours, FSX stutters and freezes. If I stop FSXWX, then the freezing problem goes away, but then I'm left with putting the weather data in manually.

Does anyone else use FSXWX? Have you experienced similar issues? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot it?

I don't know what version you have, but others complain about the same freezing issue and the solution seems to be to use version 1.6.3.a found here: https://www.fsxwx.com/download/fsxwx163a.zip Is this the version you're using?

I had the same problem with many crashes on long-haul flights, and it's what ultimately led to my buying ActiveSky. Honestly, it was worth the investment to get more realistic weather. FSXWX did a fine job with the winds aloft, but I never felt that the local weather was that good (a real-world Airport would be reporting LIFR and FSXWX would be MVFR or better). I wouldn't go back...

I think I'm only using "1.6.3" not "1.6.3a". I'll try this download and see if that clears the issue.

I started using the 1.6.3a version and it is much better. I still get a 'stutter' of about 7 seconds every once in a while during the cruise. It used to be a good 30-second stutter and it was all the time, once it started.

I've also noticed the weirdness at ground level of FSXWX. I'm going to try ActiveSky.

I switched to ActiveSky. So far it's way cool!

Like I said, I wouldn't go back. The weather around the airport is so much better, and you can actually get real IFR/LIFR conditions (to make those approaches more exciting). No more sudden jumps/discontinuities where the wind shifts rapidly. And, you can get Departure/Arrival/Alternate weather reports through ACARS!
