Hi,

is there special reason for which you link the A380 rating with the B747 rating.
Concerning the technical aspects, I would assume it is much closer to the A330/A340. In case it needs to be a Stage 5 airplane, why Boeing and not the A350 rating? I guess, flying a Boeing Jumbo is not even close to flying an Airbus system.

Thanks smile
Christian

Originally the 2ndary ratings weren't necessarily based on the airframe, the 757 was a stage 3, while the 767 was a stage 4. The aircrafts were grouped by operational complexity (range), passenger capacity etc. So similarly operated aircraft (the 757 200-250ish pax, 3700nm range) gave the A310 (200-250ish pax 3500nm range) were grouped together. My .02 anyways. Have a great day.

Before I got on staff years ago I recall asking someone that same question. When I was overseeing Ops, I thought about revising the stage ratings but didn’t. It’s still on my mind even as President. Perhaps Ops can chime in.

i just saw this and thought I would elaborate. The 747 and A380 are grouped together because of their capacities, number of engines and both being "Jumbos". So it isn't about the manufacturer but about how they are operated.
