I've seen pros and cons to both... wondering what yall are using, and why you would not go the other way or not?

I have air cooling and one of my son's has liquid cooling. I can't tell you which is better but the liquid cooling took up a lot more space in his case. IMHO its not really needed unless you plan to overclock. I also installed and reinstalled it several times (like a USB flash drive haha).

I think the most important thing is air flow through the case overall. I had my case up against the underside of my desk and blocked in the back and relocated to get better air flow (and upgraded to a new 120mm pc case fan). All is working much more smoothly now.

Correct.
You want to achieve a better air flow on your PC, or you might overheat and damage your hardware. So, thermal paste should also be applied on your CPU cooler.

I've always been air cooled and I have a couple of aerosol cans of PC dust cleaner right nearby. It gets dust out real good.

Thank you all for the feedback, Sounds like aircooling is more than sufficient unless overclocking. I plan on getting a full tower case so not sure space is too much of an issue. Thermal paste is absolutely part of the plan.

Thanks!

I do strictly water cooling, but I do tend to run overclocked so air would not be sufficient

Liquid cooling. In my present rebuild I started with the Corsair H115I but when I tried to install it, the wiring connecting were on the radiator and not a usual pigtail with slack. I couldn't get to the connections much less all the additional wires for RGB control.
I went with the NZXT Kraken 280 MM instead. No lights but I don't use them, and the wiring is far simpler.
Thermal compound? Kingpin Jayz2cents did some comparisons https://youtu.be/RhaEOEGDb94?si=M2JCBc4e7cnh8tcl
