I just received my promotion to Captain in the 737 program and am interested in getting an additional type rating so I can fly the MD-88. I know I have to take the FO test for the MD-88 but if I pass, will my rank be changed to First Officer in the MD-88 program or will I remain a captain in the 737 program. I'd rather remain in the 737 program as a captain.

By passing the MD-88 FO test you will recive additional ratings in the MD-88 and MD-90 but you must indicate in the top of the test that the purpose is "additoanl rating" not "switch program" that way you will recive the additonal rating.

As long as you select the "Additional Rating" option at the top of the test, then you will see the MD-88/MD-90 in the pilot center as aircraft you're rated to fly, but you will NOT be shifted into the MD-88 Program. Which means you retain your current rank and such in the B737 Program.
