Relax; this isn't a bad thing. Effective immediately, I will no longer be maintaining or updating the current versions of the Online Flying Kit and the DVA/AFV Common Shape Libraries for SB2.

One project which has sat on my file server for a number of weeks has been an updated version of the OFK for use with Squawkbox 3. As you may be aware, a number of DVA pilots have been part of the alpha team for SB3. I no longer have SBRelay or Squawkbox2 installed on my FS PC. There still are a number of issues that need to be finished with SB3 such as private voice, weather and radio tuning, but the package is stable and reliable, and it's the real deal. I love taking SB3 out on a group flight with a dozen other Delta aircraft on the ramp and watch y'all taxi and takeoff smoothly, and all have proper DAL liveries.

Part of the reason I was asked to help with SB3 testing was my interest in ensuring that SB3 displays the model and texture you want it to. Delta is unusual in that we have three major liveries, plus a number of special liveries like the Soaring Spirit and Song. Probably only BA goes farther than DAL in terms of liveries and the sheer number of models they are painted on. I currently have a version of the AFV and DVA CSLs (they're called Model Sets now) ready for SB3. Actually, the current CSL will detect SB3 and install properly on it, too.

Going forward, my goal is to have a version of the OFK that includes SB3 plus the AFV, DVA and VIP3 model sets as an OEM verison. I spoke with Joel DeYoung informally this morning and he has no issues with such a thing. That means that hopefully within 24-48 hours after SB3 is released, DVA will have an Online Kit that includes SB3 as well as a superior model set to what VIP3 includes for DAL and AFR.

But wait..... that's not all. Currently consuming a third of a gig on my file server are two SB3 model sets that give you Project AI versions of aircraft used by Air Canada, British Airways, American, Continental, Alaska, Alitalia, Czech Air Lines, Korean Air Lines, Lufthansa, Northwest, Southwest and United, with more to come soon. I want to release these at the same time, ensuring that you can get first-rate models with SB3.

The problems with SB2 CSLs has led some other virtual airlines to shy away from them, which isn't a bad thing. Unfortunately (for them), this fear extends to SB3, which has been explicitly developed to make educated guesses about models and textures so your framerates won't get killed. DVA is going to have *the* definitive model sets for SB3, within hours after release.

Enjoy the current CSL and Online Kit. For now. smile

Cheers!

Luke that all sounds great, I have one question, Do you know something we don't as far as the release date of SB3 that hasn't been announced?

No. I should have added that in my post - my ending of development should not be construed one way or another as to the release date of SB3. The build I have is stable, but lacking some critical features. The next build should fix the latter issue, but no one knows the stability or what still needs doing.

If you look at the www.squawkbox.ca site, you can see the list of open bugs and Joel's comments on the forum. From that you can make a guess as to when release will be; at that point you will know as much about the release date as I. smile

Cheers!

LOL Both you and Matt Young were there when I joined that forum. I did read the bugs list. But from perusing the forum it appears much has been accomplished lately. I for one would love to see a late summer/early fall release. I sure appears that everyone has been dedicated to making SB3 a success!
