When I first put together the "Century Club", flying 100 flight legs was a big deal, and there were only about a half-dozen of us that had accomplished this. With less than 100 active pilots, it was easy for me to notice who was about to reach that goal and make a special, manual announcement.

Today, with over 500 active pilots, it's more difficult for two reasons. First, PIREP volumes have increased by around 220%, so there's more to approve every day. Second, with more pilots it's easy to have more than a few folks "sneak up on you" in terms of the flight numbers. I recently missed a trio of pilots, and I felt sufficiently guilty at this to decide to automate the process. The PIREP approval code has been updateed to check if you have 100/200/300/400/500 flight legs, and automatically creates a system news entry in such a case.

From a philosophical standpoint, I feel a little guilty doing this - it's much like the old "personalized" junk mail when it first came out many years ago. It would be a lot better to have the personalized attention that a manual notice would provide. However, it's more important to me that the folks that have made a solid contribution to DVA be recognised. If an automated process makes that consistent, then I think that is the best.

For those of you who haven't been recognised, you have my apologies. You should be - but the system still has a few kinks to work out, and some notifications haven't been made. I'm committed to working on this and fixing it within the next few days. You guys are special, and I want everyone to know how proud I am of your efforts and commitment. If you look at a lot of virtual airline rosters, you see that the "top pilots" have a lot of transferred hours, but very few with that specific airline. The members of Delta Virtual Airlines' "Century Club" have logged almost 9,550 flight legs. That's amazing.

Cheers!

Luke you are human and we don't see everything, and your right automating the system does take the human element away but that is what has to be done.

I've discovered why the notifications weren't going out - the code exists in two places, and in one place it was all there - and commented out. smile

Awais has a good point - this just gives those I've missed a new incentive to hit 200 legs. smile

Cheers!
