I should have posted this long ago but forgot about it since I don't fly it but...

I have on extended loan to me the POH (both volumes) of the B757/767 manuals as issued by TWA (now United) A buddy of mine is on extended medical furlough and was kind enough to loan these to me for awhile.

These manuals cover all aircraft operations, checklists, and include performance charts. If you have ANY questions at all please don't hesitate to ask and I will see what I can did out of the book(s) for you.

I also have the full-size flight-deck fold out poster if you have anyquestions about the panels.

Wish I had one for the '72.

When I was growing up we had, in no particular order:

Eastern
Pan Am
Delta
TWA
Frontier
Northwest
Ozark
United
American

...and probably half a dozen others I've never seen in the KSTL area. But those were the domestic biggies where I lived.

Not many left on that list today.

I think, but I'm not sure about Frontier. Seems I heard something about them awhile back. They might still be in business.

Someone is buying someone else out everyday it seems. Or they just fold up into bankruptcy. We can thank airline de-regulation for that and the fuel crunch in '71-'72. That was the one-two punch the airlines really didn't need.

What it did allow was a lot of small start-up, cheap fare airlines to start flying, but, many didn't and still don't last very long. While it keeps airfare somewhat low( and maintenance shoddyfor some), I'd rather be able to choose what line I'd rather fly on if the fare is only a +/- $30-50 difference rather than choosing a Southwest flight from KSTL to KTPA for $98 or a Delta flight for $189 for the same route. Airline regulation was the Government sticking it's nose where it didn't belong, but it kept the airlines competitive, even if prices were a bit higher.

If I wanted to take the bus, I'd buy a ticket on a Greyhound. That is exactly Southwests' mentality about running their airline. But who am I to complain? They're operating in the black unlike most everyone else.

I just like a little more service, space, and luxury when I fly. SWA packs 'em in like a school bus on a field trip and they think the pre-flight briefing humor and a Coke en-route is going to make up for the bus ride.

Speaking of Southwest Airlines, I saw a poll on the news a few months ago about the best overall airline in the US including the most people friendly and Southwest had the highest rating of all the major US carriers. And how about Piedmont and Republic in the list of old US airlines?

Never saw much of those two at KSTL, but Piedmont did have flights into KSTL. I've never heard of the other airline.

Man, must be a great read!

I'm interested in the Vrefs for different weights. Any way to post that info?

I had a chance to check the performance charts and Normal Procedures, but as I suspected this information must be calculated based on weight, temperature, density altitude, etc, and is not included in either volume.

I have cruise charts, climb charts, and descent charts, but no V-ref.

Thanks, Michael! Anything you can post would be great and by all means, yes, do it at your convenience! I'm still getting comfortable with these birds after my absence so, in addition to honing my Vrefs--and now that Charley is done with us--I have plenty of practicing to do.

There is a lot of information in the performance tables including W&B calculations. If you would like something specific I'd be glad to look it up, but I have no way to get any of the charts on the site. My scanner has been down for some time with no replacement in sight.

Each of these volumes is about 2" thick. The smaller one contains Operating Limitations, Normal Procedures, Non-Normal Procedures, and Planning and Performance. This one is usually carried in the pilot's chart case.

The larger 8.5"x11" volume contains Environmental Systems Ops and Temp Control, Pressurization, Cargo Heat, Equipment Cooling, and Controls and Indicators. The Controls and Indicators is by far the most extensive of the chapters and contains in-depth information on the FMC, Auto-Flight system, HSI and EFIS control system, WX Radar, etc.

There is also a very interesting chapter in the very back about Captain and First Officer transitional training with lesson plans and departure and descent profiles for various configurations. Minus the V-ref speeds (of course), though in the descent profiles there are recommended speeds listed for different flap settings.

Like I said, if you want something specific let me know and I will check for it. I don't know these manuals backwards and forwards since it's not my first choice for an airliner, but they are interesting reading on occasion.
