Hi all,

I read through some of our FOMs. I discovered that we may operate the aircraft lights wrong. 3 FOMs I read recently say we shall turn on STROBE light when pushing back.

What I have known is as follow (I don't know if it is correct, please verify).

Before Start: Anti-collision ON // Other lights OFF
Before Taxi: Anti-collision, Navigation Lights, Taxi Lights (Runway Turnoff) ON // Other Lights OFF
Before Takeoff: Anti-collision, Navigation Lights, Landing Lights, Strobe ON // Taxi Lights OFF
After Takeoff: Passing 10,000ft, Landing Lights OFF. Anti-collision, Nav lights, Strobe ON // Taxi Lights OFF
After Landing: When vacated, STROBE OFF, Landing Light OFF, Taxi lights ON, Anti-collision, Nav lights ON.

Please help to verify.

I can tell you that Continental pilots don't turn the strobes on until they're entering the active runway for takeoff and they turn them off after exiting the runway after landing. Since I work at night at Newark Int I haven't seen anybody turn them on at any other time except as mentioned above.

At the gate: formation lights, red beacon (if hydraulics are on)
Taxi: formation, red beacon, taxi
Takeoff: formation, red beacon, strobes, landing, taxi
Flight: fromation, red beacon, strobes

OK:

position/nav: all the time (whether engines running or not) unless parked at hangar or something. shows plane is active.
red beacon: when engines running (maybe hydrolics not sure)
strobes (white): when cleared for takeoff (sometimes off in clouds because of reflection)
landing lights: as desired on ground; on when cleared for takeoff and below 10,000ft.
taxi and runway turnoff: as desired
logo: on on ground at night
