At around midnight ET on November 1st, the web site will be going down while I push Build 49 of the web application to our servers. This is the first build in two months to bear the "Release Candidate" designation, because I think we're getting to the point where we can almost consider this app finished. As part of this upgrade, I will be deprecating Builds 57 and prior of ACARS. Please download Build 58 of ACARS from the Fleet Library NOW if you plan to be flying over midnight, since at that point you will not be able to log in again with an older build.

Barring a critical bug, I do not anticipate future deprecations. Build 58 fixes one last internationalization issue with ACARS, and includes two final FDR parameters - pitch and bank angle. At this point, I think v1 of the ACARS protocol will be complete and I can keep older clients in circulation. Build 58 also adds an auto-save feature to automatically save your flight every few minutes.

The web app adds a number of new bug fixes, as well as new features such as a more advanced ACARS server that will hopefully time out less under load, more powerful Online Event handling, support for our Delta FLY! newsletter and Google Earth integration with ACARS so you can see your flights in 3D. If you have Google Earth already installed on your PC, you can download the following KML file to see a test flight:

The constant updating of the web site has been a challenge, but I honestly think that DVA2006 puts us in another league compared to other virtual airlines. It's time for us to slow down a little bit and stabilize. Hopefully Build 49 will be stable.
