Those of you living in the United States may be familiar with the case of Eric Rudolph, a fugitive who was arrested recently after hiding out in the mountains of western North Carolina. Rudolph is facing charges for a series of bombings in Birmingham, Alabama during the late 1990s, as well as the well-known bombing in Atlanta's Centennial Olympic park during the 1996 Summer Olympic games.

You may not be aware that our own William Chambers is currently working with the United States Attorney's office in Birmingham, which will be trying Rudolph first. A major criminal trial is always a serious undertaking, but one as high-profile as this case is will be doubly so. William has informed me that he will need to take some time away from Delta Virtual Airlines in order to attend to this case. Accordingly, I will be opening applications for the position of the 757/767 Chief Pilot.

Geoffrey Smith, our current Director of Training, was the first DVA 757/767 Chief Pilot and he put together a good description of the position the last time we did a search. Let me quote it here: "Introduce the skills of international and heavy jet flying while incorporating challenges such as emergencies and heavy online traffic. This pilot should know the PIC cockpit like the back of his hand and be fluent in its operation. This pilot will have the opportunity (because of PIC) to get very realistic in his training with the pilots who want it and should be able to provide this realism."

What we are looking for is an individual that combines excellent flying skills and theoretical knowledge, with approachability and a willingness to assist pilots. The 757/767 program is the largest equipment program at Delta Virtual Airlines, encompassing 1 in 3 DVA pilots. The program is larger than many (heck, most) virtual airlines. I'd like to slightly blunt Geoffrey's emphasis on PIC - it is a commercial package, and Delta Virtual Airlines does not mandate the purchase of any commercial software. PIC knowledge is certainly an advantage for any applicant, but is not a pre-requisite.

Please e-mail me at ceo@deltava.org if you are interested. In your e-mail, please take a few moments to describe your virtual aviation skils and experience, and your vision for the 757/767 program. At the end of the week, I'll be forwarding them to the senior staff for their comments and recommendations.

Cheers!

Luke
