Hey folks! Quick question here... I've just been promoted to the 767-300, and I noticed that to be eligible for promotion to Captain, I need to log my 10 hours in one of the 767s (obviously) OR a member of the A330 family.

In the promotions manual, the A330 is considered a Stage 4 Jet, not stage 3 like the 67. How can I accrue hours towards promotion in an aircraft of a different stage?! Or, is the promotions manual out-of-date (I thought it was updated recently?). As the A310 IS a member of the Stage 3 aircraft, I was thinking that I'd be able to accrue hours in that instead...

Similarly, my "Switch Equipment Programs" tells me that, in addition to the 727 and 757, I'm eligible for adding a type rating for the DC-6 after passing a first-officer test. Again, the DC-6 is also a Stage 4 aircraft!

I'm confused!

Many Thanks,
Jim

No it must be out of date because the A330 is a stage 3 aircraft, but yes the DC-6 is a stage 4 aircraft, and you are not elgible for it until you make captain in the stage 3 aircraft. It doesn't necessarily mean ten hours, it means 10 flight legs. once you have completed the ten flight legs, then you are elgible for promotion to captain. Have fun flying though!!! And congrats on the 763 promotion. I have had the rating for a while myself, but just got promoted to FO in the stage three myself!!!

Oops - Yeah, I mistyped. I knew it was "legs" and not "hours!" Anyway, thanks for the response.

You are correct Jim - the A330 is a Stage 3 aircraft. It was originally stage 4, but it was designed partially as a 767 replacement and could go either way. We eventually moved it into stage 3 so that Aviation Francais Virtuel could have a modern stage 3 program.

I will create an Issue to update the Promotions Guide.

Cheers!

Talk to Will & Matt. I certainly would have no objections - if you can get that aircraft working properly (it can be done, it's just a complicated panel) then you deserve to have the flights count in my opinion, but that's really their call.

Cheers!

That's precisely why I ask! I spent so much time figuring out the panel and practicing touch n' gos and navigated several short legs offline that I'd LOVE for it to count for more than simply logging the hours. Only issue I have is a terrain warning that won't go off every once in a great while. Other than that, I absolutel love the panel's complexity.

Thanks, Luke! I'll ask one of them...

I guess it won't really matter TOO much since there are minimal flights available in those planes. However, there are always slightly more A310 flights, I've noticed.

I have no problem with A310 flights counting towards promotion in the 757/767 aircraft. Given that DAL actually operated the type on routes that would normally be covered by the 757/767, it only makes sense. If Will agrees, I will edit the program profile later this evening.

Awesome - thanks, Matt! That may very-well be my favorite Airbus... though I have yet to toy with the A340. I'll get there someday! For now, I really do love the A310.

Thanks again!
