I solicited our esteemed president to add a historical route from the recent past and it happened! Delta tried to get some golfer business last year and started CRJ flights between KATL and Hickory, NC (KHKY). Unfortunately, it failed miserably with service beginning in May 2005 and ending in November 2005. Fortunately for us DVA pilots, flights in each direction have been added to the schedule which are now open to all.

Thanks to Terry and Luke for putting this together, especially so quickly.

For all you pilots out there, fly into KHKY and enjoy the mountains and Lake Hickory as you descend upon a pituresque setting into this cool little airport with 2 runways to choose from. Be sure to bring plenty of room in your aircraft as Hickory, NC is the largest producer of furniture in the USA!

It's a neat area. My wife is a jeweler and when we lived in South Carolina she exhibited at Art in the Park up in Blowing Rock a few times. One June a few years ago we got rained out...early June, 90+ in Columbia, and in Blowing Rock it was maybe 55 degrees, wind chill in the high 30s and raining sheets sideways. Gotta love life at 3600 feet up in the Blue Ridge.

And he's not kidding about the furniture...US 321 between Hickory and Lenoir (the base of the mountains) is basically a 25-mile stretch of Wal-Marts, convenience stores, and furniture outlets. smile

I didn't know they stopped the service. I remember seeing a billboard along I-85 promotiong the route. I remember thinking why anyone would want to fly to Hickory.

Yep, its a bummer they stopped service. But, they've got to go where the money is. At least we can all continue to live the dream....

The schedules HKY - ATL and return are all squared away now. There are 4 flights in each direction to select from uising the CRJ-200.

Enjoy!
