Jim Pray DVA 2570 can proudly display his new PPL rating because he passed his checkride this evening. He did a great job flying the EMB 120, landings were super, etc. Congratulations are in order. Looking forward to seeing Jim sign up for the Commercial course soon.....

Great job Jim! Scott told me you did a very good job on the checkride, despite his attempts to trip you up!

Wear that PPL certification proud and we'll see you in the commercial course once it is ready to go!

Thanks to everyone for their kind words, it means a lot to me. I really appreciate George and Scott for helping and guiding me. As so many of you already know, this is a great bunch of people here at DVA. Every day I am amazed at the level of help that is here especially when I ask questions that have been asked hundreds of times before. I am still fairly new to this only have joined a little less that a year ago so am learning all the time.

Thanks again.

Jim

Jim,
I appreciated the opportunity to show you some things and it was a pleasure to watch you transform into what I believe is a truly competent pilot who would do very well in a real world C172 first time out, I think.

A Congrats is definitely in order! I know how my Checkride was! I was the first one to have a real engine failure in the flight academy! Turning downwind after my touch and go, heading around in the pattern to make my final landing as a full stop, my right engine failed completely! and I still managed to get it on the ground safely. That was the most interesting landing I have had yet! Thanks again George! Can't wait for the Commercial part to be available!

Cheers!

CONGRATULATIONS MR. PRAY!!!!

You are now a part of a very small, very elite group of Delta pilots. Many are they that talk-the-talk... but you just proved you can also walk-the-walk.

Come upstairs and join us on rw.liveatc.net/DAL_PPL (you too Andy!!) Mike and I are getting lonesome!! biggrin

Gary

PS.. and as Mr. Warner mentioned... checkout your new "PPL" banner... ain't it cool?

If you look under the Pilot Accomplishments link, you'll see the Flight Academy ratings that pilots have obtained. It's not hard to obtain the PPL but it's not easy as well, as you can see from the number that obtained it so far.

As one might suspect, this isn't a quick checkride and a test - the manual is 120 pages and there are flights with an instructor, cross country flights via ACARS - one of them online on vatsim or IVAO, and of course, a checkride with the examiner in the airplane. The checkride isn't all flying either - the pre-checkride includes planning a flight somewhere.

Anyone who has their DVA PPL has definitely proven they are in control of the airplane and understand the concepts of pitch, power and trim. They can navigate with the NDB and VOR and have at least a decent grasp of ATC communications. They'll able to put together their own VFR flight plan from point A to point B and after that, they can get there without the aid of the GPS or 3rd party software. All of their flying is HAND FLOWN - no autopilot.

I am proud of each and every one of you guys who have gone through the course and completed it!
