Hey guys,

I recently was promoted to 738 captain but want to move to the MD-88 program. I passed the written and now have been asked to complete a checkride.

All I have been given is a route to fly...

Should departure/approach be flown by hand?
Is it alright to use radar contact as my ATC?

Thanks,
Dan H

There should have been specific instructions like to hand fly the airplane up to 10k then autopilot is allowed, then on the descent, at 10k, shut the autopilot back off and hand fly the airplane. Usually handflying the ILS approach. I have only had one vis approach on a CR!

Cheers!

Daniel,
The best thing I can recommend is that you contact your Chief Pilot (Larry Foltran, MD-88) and ask him these questions. You might also want to send the email to the assistant Chief Pilot as well - Tyrone Weston - you can find their email addresses to the left on the OUR STAFF link.
