I was looking at a post about the 50 biggest cargo carriers and it dawned on me. Is there a Delta Cargo? Or rather, I saw it listed, so are we simulating their operations? Different fleet (maybe 747s?) and different routes?

Thanks!

Terry,

I don't know that there is currently a seperate Delta Cargo in operation. However, there was in the past, DAL operated the Lockheed L-100 (C-130) on dedicated cargo routes in the 60s and 70s, and prior to that they operated the Curtiss C-46. We do have a L-100 available in DAL colors, and there are dedicated routes for it in the schedule, taken from the DAL timetables of the period. The L-100 is a Stage 1 aircraft, so anyone can fly it.

Thanks for the reply Matt.

Found this: "ATLANTA, Oct. 6, 2003 - The U. S. Cargo Sales Joint Venture, formed by Air France, Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) and Korean Air, today applauded Alitalia's decision to become the newest member of the Joint Venture. The four carriers also are members of the SkyTeam Cargo alliance with Aeroméxico and CSA Czech Airlines."

and further down: "The Joint Venture is based in Atlanta with regional offices in Atlanta, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, and is managed and staffed by experienced cargo employees of all the carriers. The company is owned by Air France, Alitalia, Delta and Korean Air, and governed by a joint Board of Directors. The U.S. Cargo Sales Joint Venture is a unique and unprecedented common structure among worldwide cargo partners. "

We do still have Delta Air Cargo offices out there. We have one here at KDAB. It's reffered to as DASH. But we do not have dedicated cargo aircraft, we just load it in the bins of the passenger aircraft. A little note about cargo, did you know that we can carry live animals of any kind, including snakes scorpions, and so forth, as well as biological materials, infectious substances, spontaineously combustible materials, and radioactive materials?

That amazed me when I started workign here lol

Most major airlines have a seperate cargo subsidiary, but only NWA (in the US at least) has dedicated aircraft (and a cargo base in KANC).

Matt, I am not finding any L100 routes in the database, when I do a search by equiptment. I do see L10 historic routes, but not ones for the Herc.

Strange, I made the routes up a while ago. I'll get them to Luke and see if we can't get them added.
