Just wondering if -54 ft./min. in an MD-88 counts as a greaser? My last flight was DVA3266 KCVG - KDCA and that is what my touchdown speed was. It was by accident I must admit, I am no where near that good of a pilot, still I thought it was very smooth.

I know in the real world, they have spot landing competitions where are judged by how close to "x marks the spot" you can land the airplane.

Any landing that is under -500 ft/min is good - I wouldn't worry too much about "greasers" - they are really too hard to track in flight sim, IMHO...

Steven you are at number 7 in greased landings for that aircraft in the last thirty days.using the search parameters at the top of the greased landing page helps you find little factoids like that.

Actually, while greased landings are a source of pride for pilots, they are not the preferred method for large transport aircraft. Greased landings are usually the result of a bit of float above the runway and heavy aircraft should be firm ly planted on the runway- not lingering in ground effect. The goal is to get the aircraft stopped and speed will bleed quicker by use of spoilers and reverse thrust- which cannot be initiated until the main gearhave made contact and the squat switch is closed to permit their operation.

So take pride fellow pilots who consistently land at -400fpm such as myself--those are not bad landings either considering the equipment

Chasing “greaser landings” in the real world as well as the virtual world is not to career enhancing. I myself have attempted every now and then to sneak a greaser landing, and I have a few 700+ fpm landings to my credit for it. Greaser landings tend to be caused by getting your aircraft to fast with to shallow of a sink rate, which brings you to the overrun area and second look at the approach end of the runway, or getting your aircraft in a slow speed high AOA situation, which could result in a stall situation. Either way take George’s and Roger’s advice and just get your aircraft down safely. That’s all that really matters. And hey if your get a greaser doing it safely then good on ya.

My worst landing in a while was a -55 ft/min landing. had a nice touchdown yesterday with a -189 I think it was... on the -55 I bounced off on the right main - eh... the numbers mean little to me...
