Some time tomorrow moring (around 10-11 ET) I will be upgrading the web application to Build 118. This introduces a number of changes, most prominently a total refresh of our SID/STAR charts to PDF using the latest FAA data. (International charts will remain unchanged.) I have around 33,000 charts in the DEV server, or 1.2GB worth. If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, your ACARS client should be able to load them without any changes or upgrades.

During this time, I will be upgrading the back-end database software from mySQL 4.1 to 5.0. This is a significant change, and when doing so mySQL AB recommends that I do a full database dump and import into the new server. I will also do this because if the import messes up, I have a working 4.1 instance and I can easily undo the change. Since we have several gigabytes of data in our database and the web application must be stopped during this time, there will be a relatively brief outage while I do the upgrade, on the order of 20 minutes.

Finally, Build 118 of the webapp has a number of ACARS changes, and will prevent Builds 80 and 81 of the ACARS client from connecting, as they pass an incorrect authentication message to the server. If you are not running Builds 80 or 81 already, you should be.

ACARS will be down during the upgrade, but offline flights can be flown and position reports saved. When you complete your flight, you can shut down FS but please keep ACARS running until the server comes back up and you can file your PIREP.

Please accept my apologies for this long upgrade, but we need to do it sooner rather than later, and now is as good a time as any.

I am an hour out of ATL coming in from Moscow, i am using build 71, when you update the webapp to build 118, will i be able to connect to file the flight?

You should be good with 71. The only builds that should work with the ACARS server are 71, 74 and 82.

When i try to reconnect i get an error, Obsolete ACARS Client- No Version specified, oh well sad since it the flight was close to 12 hrs.

Same thing here, noworries Luke I know it is a ton of work, BTW my problems yesterday were due to a fleet installer installing an older FSUIPC versionthat I did not catch during the install, am able to connect today but getting the obsolete message. We are getting there though.

Hopefully someone can try with 71 and 74 to see if they still work, although I'm getting pretty close to deprecating 74 as well.
