"Delta has unveiled its plan to exit Chapter 11 in the spring of 2007 as a strong, independent, stand alone carrier. In support of our goal, Delta's Board of Directors has rejected US Airways' takeover bid. We have no doubt that Delta's stand alone Plan of Reorganization is intended to enable us to emerge as a fundamentally new and different airline that will be a strong global carrier with a profitable, long-term future. Delta's stand alone plan will help:

-Keep airfares more competitive in more worldwide markets
-Keep the convenience and choice of our extensive U.S. domestic and international route systems
-Enhance the value and reach of your Delta SkyMiles® and partner airlines opportunities
-Protect the high level of customer service you deserve and have come to expect
-Deliver greater operational reliability and on-time performance"

What I found most interesting was the leasing of 13 "long range 757s." From the Transformation report, at http://www.delta.com/about_delta/deltas_transformation/index.jsp :
"In 2007, we will continue our aggressive international expansion with the addition of dozens more international routes, including a return to the heart of Asia in June with nonstop flights between Atlanta and Seoul-Incheon. Future growth will be enabled by the continued conversion of wide-body aircraft flying in the domestic system to international service and the planned addition of 13 additional Boeing 757 long-range aircraft capable of flying across the Atlantic and to Hawaii."
The report continues later:
"We will bolster our internationally-capable mainline fleet with ten additional 757 aircraft, for delivery between July 2007 and November 2007. We have also received court approval to enter into leases for three additional 757s. If leases are entered into, we expect to take delivery of these aircraft in early 2008."

I heard about that, however, did anyone read the Detroit Free Press last week? In the Business Section, there was an article about airline mergers.... and included was a part about how "U.S. Airways begain a hostile bid for Delta Air Lines". Has anyone heard anymore on that?
