Brian, the PPL course is a series of lessons, cross country flights, and checkride that we as instructors are able to fly in the EMB-120 with you using FSnet/Co-pilot and Teamspeak. We teach everything starting with the basics that will be needed to pass the PPL checkride. It is a lot of fun. Check it out.

We don't currently support any other flight simulator other than FS2004. We do plan on supporting FSX, but not at the moment. fsnet/copilot is a $10 piece of software (with a free demo for I think 4 hours).

Brian, we teach the basics in the PPL - how to fly the airplane - pitch power and trim, slow flight, stalls - you learn how to "fly" the airplane instead of it flying you. We don't use the autopilot in the PPL course. You learn the basics of navigation, flight planning and fuel planning. You learn how to fly the traffic pattern. It's modeled after real world private pilot training, except you're in a turboprop EMB-120 and the instructor is in the airplane with you, via live 2-way voice communication using teamspeak.

The commercial course is available to those who graduate the PPL course - we button up the flying abilities, throwing in crosswinds, etc., engine out procedures, short and soft field procedures, etc. navigation wise, we teach you how to fly intersections, airways and SIDS/STARS and also how to master the CRJ-200...

120 page PPL manual, 155 page Commercial manual.

Hope that helps you somewhat...

Brian, basically, the PPL teaches you how to actually fly the aircraft. No FMC. No Autopilot, no auto throttle. You will learn all that you need to in the basics of how to actually fly an aircraft.

I still don't know why more people don't enroll. It is free, you can do it at your own pace, the teachers are there to teach you new stuff, not rag on you for how much you don't know. There is no place like home....I mean the "flight academy". You may even learn a new song! biggrin

Hi,

I just recently joined Delta VA.

I have a RW private pilot's license, although it has been several years since I flew a real airplane. I'm interested in doing the CFI course, but it looks like I need to do the PPL first. Is there a "fast track" for the PPL course?

Thanks

-- Erin

Erin,

The course takes as long as you let it so to speak. You can make it through in a few days or a few weeks. It all depends on your schedule and the amount of time you can dedicate towards it. I don't see any reason why it would take you longer than about a week. Having your PPL will really help the process too. Hope to see you in the course!

Erin, as Andrew said, real world PPLs should breeze through it, providing they take the time to do it. Once you get the PPL knocked out of the way, the Commercial course will be available to you.
