I was reading at boeing.com about the 739ER, and I was thinking, with a range of 3200nm, couldn't it do a KJFK to EGLL? Just a thought...
EDIT: Just checked, JFK to Gatwick is 200 miles out of range, but could the 739ER do any kind of transatlantic flight?

Subjected to ETOPS approval (most likely it'll be denied). He's still short of range.

Cheers!

yep all about the ETOPS approval. a plane might be able to make it, but it has to be approved. the airbus 319 would make it AND is approved. Air Canada uses it.

The 737 NG's are ETOPS rated. As well as the BBJ. I don't know why the -900ER would not be approved of the rating.

Steve, the aircraft can be ETOPS rated, but they have a limit. Really, the ETOPS rating belongs to an AIRLINE, not to a specific aircraft family.

Cheers!

So that means I can't take my 757 across the pond in Delta colors either because Delta doesn't have any 757 ETOPS (yet). I'll have to do it in a CO 757.

I brought it up at the Help Desk because I'm curious also.

Exactly, DL's 757s are not ETOPS rated yet - that's why they can't even fly to Hawaii.

Cheers!
