So I was wondering after reading Bruno's post about the A310. Why no 747 program? Delta use to fly 747's just like 727's and DC-8's and we have those 2 programs. I have wondered this before, but never bothered to ask. I personally would join the 747 program if we had one due to my love of that particular aircraft. Any other folks have the answer for me, is this perhaps something we can do?

Well im not sure if they will start a 747 for DAL, but you can most certainly fly for our sister airline Airfrance Virtuel....they have the 747 program.

Hope that helps.....or what you can do is, get the rating for the 744 and just fly it all over for whom ever is in the Codeshare that uses the 744

Regards,

That's what I do is fly the codeshares, just something I was wondering about since it was an actual delta operated A/C for awhile.

I totally agree with you. We still have the L1011 and 727 programs. There is no reason we shouldn't have a 747 program then. I also think we should have a charter service where we can fly the business jets and get credit too.

Ok..I will be devil's advocate here. Why would you need a 747 program if DVA already supplies one in Delta colors and allows you to fly it on any flight, within reason, listed in the database? If you are going to add a 747 program, then there might be others that would want a DC-9 program...and then some might want a EMB 170 program....etc ..etc..

Eventually you have 50 different programs (ok..I exaggerate) and 5 active pilots in each...2 of which are the Chief and Asst Chief. I think the way DVA has it structered now makes good sense (...except for the Historic Propliners being Stage 5....ahem...ahem...ahem)

Yeah. I can of see where you are going with it Norm. Like I mentioned before I was just wondering what the rationale behind our current programs was. I personally would like to see a 747 program and a DC-9 program just for the historic value that each of these planes hold for the airline and the industry as a whole. (Delta was the first to order the ole' dc-9's, as I am sure you know). As far as pilots go, us being the biggest VA in the universe and all I don't think we would have to worry about a problem with a shortage of pilots in any one particular program. In fact from time to time it seems like the programs we have now are kind of flooded although I am sure this is monitored closely. I was just curious to hear different peoples opinions on the issue and was kind of hoping Terry or one of the powers that be would drop by and give me the scoop.
