To all L-1011 pilots,

I was appointed the new L-1011 and I would like to introduce myself to anybody that?s does not know me. I am Bruno Pinto, an Economist from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I am 25 years old and work for a management consulting firm.
I didn?t get appointed for any reason, I have a history on the historic aircraft. I was a captain on the DC-8-61 program, where I got promoted to Senior Captain few months ago. On that program I used to fly the B720, B707-120/320, Convair 880/990 and the DC-8s. I did fly other aircraft such as the L-1011, for example. Recently I changed to the 767 program and kept flying mainly the A300/310. With the resignation of James, I saw an opportunity to be a Chief Pilot in a historic program and here I am.
I do have a history as staff member, not in DVA, but in VATUSA. I am the former vZHU DATM, believe it or not, a very hard position inside de ARTCC. I had to deal with problems but could not solve some problems without letting the ATM know first and all. My biggest accomplishment as vZHU DATM was the whole airspace sectorization. Now if you fly through vZHU you will see a HOU_38_CTR on frequency 126.950. That is the sector 38 or Daisetta sector, following real world procedures. On events you will see more controllers online with different numbers covering different sectors of the ARTCC.
I got this job to make the L-1011 one of the best DVA programs. I know it will not be easy but I am willing to try and I count with all the pilots of OUR program. The program is not mine, it?s OURS!!
In order to do that, here are few ideas I had and I am willing to hear some feedback from you all, not only the L-1011 pilots.

- A L-1011 Newsletter: It would be nice to have a newsletter with all information of the program and with articles written by the pilots, my idea is get your articles, put together, format and build the newsletter
- Weekly Reports: I would inform weekly to all pilots via water cooler or e-mail, whatever you prefer, about program news, new F.O, Captains, Fly ins, etc.
- Golden Yoke Award: Since VATSIM has the Iron Mic, why can?t the L-1011 program have one also? My idea is to have a monthly award considering the pilot that fly more legs or log more hours (yet to be decided). Maybe we can think of a prize at the end of the year?Lets see what happens.

I guess that?s all. I am sorry for possible English mistakes (English is my second language).
I am waiting for some feedback and ideas about all that?

Greetings to Chief Pinto,

My name is Michael Prenovost, I'm a seasoned flight simmer, but brand new to on-line flying, and a green horn rookie with Delta, just completed my first flight yesterday from KTUL to KMEM in a Saab-340. It took me almost a year and a half to decide on a VA, and in the end Delta beat out 37 other contenders. I had my sights set on the L-1011 before I even signed up, now that I'm on board becoming a Senior Captain in the program is my goal! I read your intro as the new Tristar Chief, and I like your ideas. If I may be so bold being one of the newest rookies here, I have a suggestion for you...

How about within your newsletter bringing to light the grave state of affairs for the Tristar in the real world? Only 250 ever built, 14 have crashed, there are some dozen and a half still on duty around the globe with a hand full of airlines or cargo outfits...and as for the rest of them? About 60+ remain, sitting to rot in aircraft bone yards or on tarmacs at airports across the globe. The simple fact is this, if a L-1011 sits on the ramp too long, it looses it life, and is destroyed for metal recycle. Of all the modern jets in the last 40 some years the metal recycling snipers prefer to take aim at the L-1011s quicker than any other jumbo because they have been forgotten, have gone beyond economical service in the eyes of the airlines, and of course Lockheed got out of the commercial aircraft market, hence spare parts are an issue to keep the remaining fleet alive & flying. With these conditions current owners of L-1011s are becoming increasingly open to suggestions in having their Tristars pulled to the ground for profit... A serious piece of American & British engineering and aviation history is about to become just a faded memory! There are actually a few web sites of fans of the L-1011 out there that are keeping track on the world wide head count of those which are left, where they are, and who has them. They are usually pretty quick to catch & report when yet another L10 is pulled down & chopped. This is in fact the heart of my suggestion, including within your news letter current head count, and report when ever another L10's life is taken for recycle.

I joined Delta first and foremost because its the best VA on the planet, and second because it sees fit to keep the L-1011 around. I'm looking forward to working my way up through the ranks, and earning my rating for the L-1011, once I do that, they are going to sick of seeing me at Heathrow & Gatwick, as I flip laps back and forth to the east coast & midwest.

Congrats on becoming the new Tristar Chief Pilot, I'm looking forward to the day when I'm clear for takeoff in what I consider the most beautiful jumbo thats ever flown.
