So, what is the real view on getting more than four ratings as it is suggested in the docs.? I would like to have a rating in more than just four planes in DVA's programs. I notice that those pilots who have been around for awhile have ratings in a lot more than four. So many to fly, so little to choose?????

Monty, what you mean with only 4 ratings?

You can fly any of those a/c

Maybe I am confused.....In the Promotions Guide page 6, it states, "Pilots can have type endorsements for multiple aircraft at the same time. However, some restrictions are in place - first, Delta Virtual Airlines strongly discourages the rating of pilots in types from more than four aircraft programs at a time....."

Yes, I do have many similar aircraft to fly under the 3 type ratings that I am endorsed to fly (MD-88, 737 and 767). However there are more aircraft programs (777, MD-11, L-1011, DC-8 etc., etc.) with type ratings to be endorsed. In the promotion guide I count 12 aircraft programs - 13 including the Concorde. I may not want to be rated in all 13, but more than 4. I realize that I can only belong to one program and that there are many, many planes to fly, but, I love the Heavies and some of the old piston planes. There are just more than 4 ratings that I would like.

I guess that I was just wondering, how "strong" is the "stronly discouraged" part of the rating endorsements enforced?

No one will restrict you if you want to get additional ratings on the MD11 / B777 / DC8.
The only request is "if" you transfer to any of that programs then fly the aircraft for some time.. if you want to get all the a/c type ratings you can do it.. we try to avoid people requesting all the a/c types just for the fun to have all the ratings but they don't know how to fly them.

are thinking of the stages? (i think thats it) but there are i believe 4 stages here at DVA the EMB-120 and CRJ being at the lowest stage 1 and it works up from there. the 727, 757, and 767 are stage 3...and so on. they are based on the skill of the pilot but inside each stage are multiple types of aircraft..

I understand the stages, programs and ratings. I just wanted to make sure it was okay to get extra ratings in some of the stages; most of the ratings in stage 4, 727 and 757 in stage 3 and down the road (waaaay down), the Concorde. All in addition to the ratings I now have. I'll eventually find the program that suits me best and stick with it. I flew for another VA and got used to flying just about everything, anytime. DVA is awesome and no one else comes close. Thanks to all at DVA - you're the best!!!

In order to gain additional ratings you have to be a captain in stage below/above/equal to the program the aircraft you want is. For example, if you are a Capt. in the 767 program, you first have to transfer to a level 4 aircraft (B777) and obtain captain in order to even try for ratings in the Concorde.
Or
If you are a Captain in the CRJ-700/900 you have to transfer to the stage 2 aircraft (B737 etc.) and gain a captain's rank in order to gain additional ranks in, say, a 767 or 757. You can also gain additional ratings in aircraft in lower aircraft programs.
