Hi guys,

Im new around here. I have experience flying online and I am comfortable on the radio. I have flown regular out off and into EGLL and survived the mayhem. I have limited US flying experience in the States. I am studing the regulations and terms for flying here but Im a bit nervous. You guys talk so fast here and some of the regional acsents are harder to grasp than others. All that aside I want to base myself on the east coast. Im in the 738 fleet but I intend to transfer to the 767/757 fleets at some point down the road. So What east coast base is a good bet for me. Im looking for somewhere that has ATC on a regular basis but that isnt the sort of place a new guy is gonna cheese people off.

What routes would people suggest for someone like me. I have radar contact aswell for offline training. I have Good scenerys for KJFK/KATL/KBOS.

Regards

James

Hi James,

Myself, I would pick KATL only because its home base for Delta. Personal Preference really. From there you can find short and long haul flights up and down the east coast along with heading into the midwest or further out west. If you go to "Find a Flight" you will see numerous flighta out of KATL. You can choose any of them even if it list a different aircraft with the following rule. Remeber when picking a flight the aircraft you will be flying must be able to complete the flight safely in order for it to be approved.

VATSIM online. Well I do not have a lot of time flyin online. I find the times to be on VATSIM for the east coast are in the evening and into the night. It appears that the Southeast regiion of the United States has good coverage and the Northeast has good coverage also. Hopefully someone with more online flying experience can chime in and give you a better idea.

One thing to consider is what time you will be able to fly online compared to what time the controllers will be available.

Welcome aboard
Robert

Thanks Robert,

I agree on KATL. I just purchased the Mega Hubs USA 1. KATL is on this package. I work shift so do 6 days on and 5 off so I have no problem flying EST. Thanks for the input Robert.

James, depends on where you want to be and how much online flying you want to do. Yeah, we talk a bit funny on this side of the island, especially in ATC. Our terms are a bit different (well, sometimes they are a lot different). RC4 is a good primer for ATC over here. Altlanta tends to be online more often than other TRACONs. Based on your real world location, you are going to be a bit challenged to find regular Vatsim coverage during your "normal" day. After 2200Z you can find more ATC than before. And as the sun clocks west, so does ATC coverage for the most part. Because of sponsored flyins and other events you can find a good amount of ATC at local areas. Best to check the Vatsim calender to find where the coverage will be for any given time and date for those events. There are some freeware and a payware sceneries for FS2004 KATL. Hope this helps...

Thanks Dan, Ive bought a few scenerys today. Atlanta,LAX,Bush interc.O hare and I have kennedy. All these are in range of the 800 untill i earn my right seat on the 763. With BAV the ACARS and OSP flight data recorders required the pilot to report his position to the recorder every 30-40 mins or so. So most pilots stayed on the flightdeck for the duration of the flight. This suited me as I try to do as the real guys do. If the schedule says pushback at 0315, thats when I pushed back. My long suffering cabin crew(wife and dogs and cats) will confirm my stubborn approach to my hobby. Asleep all day to fly all nite or visa versa.

Ill fly online when you guys are online! Really looking forward to it. One suggestion I might make to the bosses, is perhaps is in the charts download section for each airport would be an all in one file for each airport. Its taking a long time to pull down KATLs extensive plate list!!

Thanks again.

James
