since we are non profit I don't think there is any way that could happen. We have over 2,000 members and that would be a lot of posters. I don't think any of our staff members would want to foot the bill. I believe some other virtual airlines have done some virtual pay and it didn't turn out very well.

I believe that you may misunderstand our mission and "business" when you suggest receiving compensation from the real world operation that we emulate. Delta Virtual Airlines is a not-for-profit enterprise established to enhance pilot enjoyment through experience and knowledge. We are not affiliated with Delta Air Lines nor any other corporation. Our staff is made up entirely of volunteers receiving no compensation in any form.

The enterprise is "owned" by Global Virtual Airlines Group that receives voluntary contributions to pay for the direct operating expenses for it affiliates, DVA and AFV.

Personally, it is an honor and a privilege to be a part of and to serve this great community. I hope that all who call Delta Virtual Airlines home would also find that it is a privilege to be a part of and participate in our community.

I would add from recent experience in awarding a prize that we received as the airline with the highest points in "Battle of the Airlines" (BOTA), it is difficult to fairly administer the selection of a winner among 29 participants let alone 2,000 plus. We have a random selection process that required 5 attempts until the award was made. My point being, that when money or items of value, in this case PSS 757 software, enter our operation it creates a whole new level of administration responsibilities. Plus, we stand to open ourselves to being beholden to special interests. Our preference and one of the factors responsible for our success is the desire to be independent.

To add to what Terry says, I think there is a form of compensation you get for being a member here in certain cases; it's what you learn and discover about yourself.

We have a lot of folks who join us who (by their own admission) don't know squat about aviation or airline procedures. They're willing to learn, and after a year or two (or six) they look back at what they have learned through the intervening years and they're quite amazed. They can do things that they never imagined they could, and learned new things about themselves. I love hearing those stories.

And while I'd personally love to make six figures out of GVA (because that's what a decent Java/C#/Database development team costs these days), I should mention that I've had a fantastic synergistic relationship between GVA and my day job. There are an awful lot of problems I face here that I've already solved as part of my job, and vice versa. That is a significant professional reward that I am very grateful for.

There are a lot of rewards here that may not be visible at first glance that you will appreciate far longer than a mug, poster or a hoodie.

Cheers!

Friends who share the same hobbies, a vast amount of interesting knowledge, promotions to Senior Captains and beyond, and lots of fun..... That is pay enough for me.

I came from another VA before I found out about DeltaVA that promotions came by the hours that was flown. I lacked @50 hours to be top of the promtion list. When I cam to DeltaVA, I find it more rewarding to have to "earn" the strpes. I know I am not the smartest cookie in the jar, but thanks for putting with me. And I have not flown anotherr hours for that VA. There is a great bunch of guys here. So do not fix anything that is not broken - keep DeltaVA like it is. Again thanks and God bless.

P.S. I just went over the 400 legss and was not mentioned. But hey, who is counting? LOL

I think its also important that we do give thanks and if there where rewards should be awarded to our amazing senior staff that puts their time and invests so much as volunteers into making this the best of the best, I think the biggest reward for me will be when I get done with my PPL course and head on for more, but the first time I can roll my plane out of the gate online, and have the ATC say there goes another one of those amazing pilots at DVA, they are always so perfessional and such great flyers, it becomes a privalage, and an honor to carry on this flag, and show the online world just how great we are...

I'd like to take this time to add my two cents, i've only really started flying heavily over the past month and i've been getting better at what i do and it gives me great satisfaction. I joined because i wanted a good hobby not a form of compensation for what i do. I've come along way and will continue to do so no matter what!
