I understand what the Cost index is and what it does...But I'm interested to know what DVA procedures are (Realistic values)
for the Cost Index on the 737-800 (PMDG). What number is reasonable...I've been using 400, but this may not be a good number...

Well, I'm pretty sure that on the PMDG Cost Index is not simulated. Refer to the manual. On most of my Level-D flights I have found 80 to be pretty reasonable. Anyways if it is modeled, just try experimenting.

CI isn't a fixed number, either. It can change during flight depending on a number of factors. Normally I'll use either 35 or 50, depending on how long my trip is. The longer, the lower.

Wow...the manual says it has to be somewhere below 1000...so I though I was doing good by putting it at 400. Sorry guys...guess I cost us a lot of money...

I was told by Mike Reich's dad (a realworld T7 FO) to always use 100 as the cost index (at least for the T7) so thats what I use in all my planes (I.E. PSS 757, 777, LvD767, PMDG 737NG and 747)

SL1 is somewhere around two-thirds of the ECON for even better fuel economy when tailwinds or time-ahead-of-schedule allows
