What is the FPM requirement for the 767 checkride? Flaps should be 30 upon landing anyway so that shouldn't be an issue. Check your speeds, rate of decent, and weight. If need be, flare a little earlier (not recommended but hey, if your at the end of your check ride and this is the only thing stopping you, go for it).

Not sure if this will help, Nick, but always remember 3 basic things: Pitch-Power-Trim. Pitch for your airspeed. Power for your altitude (and desired rate of descent) and trim the aircraft to help maintain control surface settings with less effort. Getting all this set up early on in your approach will make it that much easier. It takes lots of practice, but with time you will get better and better until it almost seems like second nature. Don't get discouraged. You'll get it.

Thanks hopefully ill get it soon. I used to be decent at landings but my joystick recently died and I am using my new CH yoke and I havnt gotten landings down with it.

Yeah. Keep trying. It took me 3 or 4 times to pass the 767 checkride. It only took me 1 for the 777, but the 767 was practice for the 777 I guess.

BTW, I was recently assigned a 767 checkride too! Wish me luck guys. I'm doing a few "ferry flights" today to practice the CR before I take the real thing.

Oh, and you need -500fpm( or less); just found out.

I PASSED! Yep, the approach sure is fun. It makes me want to hand fly a lot more. I didn't think I would have done so well.

Nick, the key really is pitch and power. What I did was start my descent a little early so I could get as much help from A/P as possible. That way, I wasn't fighting with getting my speed down to 250 as I passed through 10,000 feet. As a matter of fact, I didn't even have to use my speed break throughout the whole decent. Then passing through 7,000 I disengaged everything (as the check-ride states) and tried to keep the same trim and powered back a little more maintining about 240. I got pretty close to 250 a few times but i simply raised the nose a bit and powered back a little. Through down the flaps on scheduel, through down the gears with the buildings around the runway in sight (couldn't seethe runway yet but knew I was close) and then flaps 30 (gotta use it) and brought her in. Nice and smooth -220 I think.

Well it may have looke easy because i passed the first time around, but I flew the route 3 times before I was comfortable. I didn't use ACARS until the 4th time around. Practice practice practice.
