The 777-200LR is going to enter the Delta fleet in February. Does anyone know which route will see them?

I guess the obvious answer would be transatlantics (haha), but to where from where....who knows?

Wikipedia says that Delta is interested in Hong Kong, Sydney, and Singapore but those routes have yet to be announced.

i see sydney as a long shot because the talks of the open skies agreement between aus and the US has come to a halt during the election here, slowing it down alot i would assume

The first 3 LR's will be doing JFK-BOM-JFK. Shanghai will be served with an ER which they will get from the current ATL-JFK-BOM. The one that comes in December will be a spare for this route, which much like the ER from Atlanta to NRT, it will serve a route from New York.

FYI: They are getting 3this year, 4 in 2009 and 3 in 2010.

I thought they were flying to Shanghai with the -LR. I didn't know that the -ER could make it to Shanghai from ATL. Why are the switching the BOM route to the -LR. I thought the -ER could make it fine.

I have no idea but this is what their plans were from the begining. Just take a look @ Delta.com and do a trip JFK-BOM from say March 30th, then click view seats, you will see that it states 777LR and the business class cabin is also configured differently from the rest of the fleet (sleepers I think). Then do ATL-PVG for that same day, it is operated by an ER.

Both routes are actually just about the same distance, so I think it comes down to fleet usage.

Oh yeah. I see that in the Delta schedule. Why don't they have it in their schedule as a 777-200LR instead of only the seating view? I think the new business cabin is better. Only 4 across instead of 6. Yeah. The first few -LRs will be doing BOM and the -ERs that were on BOM will be moved to PVG. Can't wait to fly it in FS though.

Delta flight #DL110 from ATL to LAX on Mar. 8th will be THE first route to see the 77L. The 77L will be operating in a modified Business Elite cabin with only 4 across compared to the current 6 across in the 77E Business Elite. For some reason, when you click on view seats in the DL schedule, it pops up as a 764 when it is in the schedule as a 777.

"The new 777s will fly on our routes between New York-JFK and Mumbai, India. The planes will feature fully horizontal personal sleeper suites in BusinessElite featuring on-demand personal-in-flight entertainment systems in every suite. Customers in the economy cabin also will have more room, as well as on-demand in-seat entertainment." Delivery is on February 29th to ATL from SEA. 777LR looks like it'll have 50 1st Class and 218 coach class for the JFK Mumbai flight on March 9. In the skds it shows 43 1st class seats and 218 and 233 for different dates available starting post March 30th.

The 77L is starting to fly the JFK-BOM flight on March 30. The 77E it is replacing will be flying the ATL-PVG route on the same day. It's first flight will be ATL-LAX on March 8. It will also be coming from PAE (Paine Field), not SEA (I believe, since that is where they are made).

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines will induct one of its two Boeing 777-200LR on the Mumbai-JFK non-stop route, come April 2008. The aircraft will also feature a BusinessElite cabin, and the flyers on this route will be the first to experience the same.

Speaking at a media briefing, Jason Philip, commercial director - India, Delta Air Lines said, “The newly inducted B777-200LR will feature a two-class cabin configuration, with 233 seats in a 3×3x3 economy configuration, and 43 BusinessElite suites in a 1×2x1 configuration. The latter will provide fully-horizontal flat beds, making the Indian flyers on this aircraft the first to experience this facility on the Mumbai-JFK non-stop route.”

Greg Kennedy, Vice President
( Airport Customer Service- Atlanta Worldport)

The carrier was the first to start non-stop operations between Mumbai and the United States including the first daily non-stop between Mumbai and New York JFK. With the introduction of this service from April, Philips added, “Our load factor exceeds 80 per cent and come 2008, it will be a 1,00,000 market in Mumbai, which is expected to grow.”

Also, Delta recently entered into a joint venture agreement with Air France, a co-member of the SkyTeam airline alliance. As per the JV, both airlines will share revenue and costs on Trans-Atlantic routes. In the first phase of the agreement, the carriers will earn US$ 1.5 billion from April 2008, which will gradually increase to US$ 8 billion by 2010.

On the international front, it all seems bright for Delta. “Forty per cent of our operations will come from the international market starting this summer,” stated Greg Kennedy, vice president (Airport Customer Service - Atlanta Worldport) for Delta. He further stated, “We are looking at new routes such as New York to Amman,Cairo,Cape Town, Dakar, Lagos, Lyon, Malaga, Nairobi, Paris, Orly and Tel Aviv and Atlanta to Stockholm.”

The Mumbai- JFK flight is conveniently timed for passengers, as they can depart from Mumbai at 1:05 hours (Mumbai time) and arrive at JFK at 7:05 hours (New York time) and depart again from JFK at 21:20 hours (New York time) to arrive in Mumbai at 22:25 hours (Mumbai time).

Delta Air Lines First U.S. Carrier to Take Delivery of Boeing 777-200LR

Longest range jets with lie-flat seats augment Delta’s strategic international expansion

ATLANTA, Oct. 24, 2006 – Delta Air Lines will boost its ability to go the distance, internationally, as the first U.S. carrier to take delivery of Boeing’s 777-200LR aircraft. By adding the world’s longest range commercial jetliner to its fleet, Delta will bolster its international expansion with the ability to connect virtually any two cities around the globe, nonstop. The 777-200LR is the fifth and newest model of the 777 family to enter passenger service. Delta will take delivery of two 777-200LR aircraft in 2008.

“These aircraft will enable us to fly non-stop to ultra long distance destinations across Asia and the Middle East as we continue our international expansion,” said Mel Fauscett, managing director of Fleet Planning & Acquisition for Delta. “The range of these aircraft coupled with innovative cabin features will allow customers to travel to popular international destinations in superior comfort and distinguish Delta’s customer experience among the U.S. carriers.”

Delta plans to take delivery of these aircraft in early 2008. The two planes will come equipped with fully horizontal personal sleeper suites in BusinessElite®. Delta’s fully-horizontal personal suite will feature:

A reclining seat that adjusts to multiple comfortable positions, including a completely flat surface offering travelers a 6-foot 3-inch bed;
A privacy screen incorporating pull out meal table, fold-out video monitor, integrated footrest and personal stowage compartment for bags, shoes or blankets; and
Immediate access to the aisle so customers don’t have to disturb another passenger when exiting their seat
Beginning in fall 2008, Delta will add a sleeper seat to the rest of its 777 fleet. In addition to lie-flat seating, customers choosing to fly Delta’s award-winning BusinessElite on international flights will enjoy enhancements like industry-leading digital entertainment on demand at every seat introduced this summer as part of Delta’s commitment to improving customers’ travel experience.

Customers flying in economy class on Delta’s newly reconfigured 767-400 and 777-200 aircraft will catch a glimpse of the future of Delta’s on-board entertainment with award-winning, on-demand entertainment at every seat as featured in the BusinessElite cabin and select long-haul domestic flights in the United States. On all Delta international flights, customers in economy class will enjoy Delta’s new all-leather seats, enhanced food offerings, a complimentary cocktail with each meal, and soon a complimentary amenity kit featuring eye shades and ear plugs for more personal comfort and privacy.

Delta Air Lines (Other OTC: DALRQ) offers customers service to more destinations than any global airline with Delta and Delta Connection carrier service to 291 destinations in 46 countries. With more than 50 new international routes added in the last year, Delta is America’s fastest growing international airline and is the world’s leading carrier between the United States and destinations across Europe, India and Israel with flights to 29 trans-Atlantic destinations. To Latin America and the Caribbean, Delta offers nearly 400 weekly flights to 48 destinations. Delta's marketing alliances also allow customers to earn and redeem SkyMiles on more than 14,000 flights offered by SkyTeam and other partners. Delta is a founding member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance that provides customers with extensive worldwide destinations, flights and services. Including its SkyTeam and worldwide codeshare partners, Delta offers flights to 450 worldwide destinations in 92 countries.
