It occurred to me today that not everyone may realize that charts are published regularly which forecast winds aloft all over the world. Given that this may be the case, here are two links to the charts that would be helpful to most everyone here. At the very least, you can prepare yourself mentally for a 100kt headwind!

If you require an explanation on how to read them, feel free to ask and I'll gladly explain! If everyone already knows of these, my apologies for boring you wink

Thanks for the link! It will certainly help in deciding cruise altitude.

I've received a few emails requesting a brief tutorial for these charts. I will create one and post it later this afternoon!

I'll have to keep it in mind. They don't happen to have these for people flying online do they?

Does FS9 actually use the real world winds aloft? The messages seem to say that the program is accessing the nearest airport. I will check the real world winds aloft chart and the ND on my PMDG 737-800 next time I fly, although I don't know if that would be a valid check.

To add on - if you use Dispatch - I usually give you winds for enroute and local!

:-)

Try dispatch!

Another great source for winds aloft is http://squall.sfsu.edu/crws/jetstream.html
They've got better international coverage than the SIGWX charts, which only show one or two major wind patterns aloft.
