I had emailed Andrew about my problems on Vatsim. What was happening was the controller couldn't detect any movement so we concluded that it was most likely my internet connection. I am not directly connected to the internet. Is there a way to improve this connection? (besides moving my comp closer to the central network comp). Is it possible to directly connect to the vatsim server by using the IP address? plotting

Do you use a router? If so does it say you have good/excellent signal? If not you may want to move closer. It could be literally a milion things.

Well my comp is on a network. my comp is upstairs (the fsx comp) and the center comp is downstairs which is connected to a router which shoots the internet up to me.

But i was just wondering if there is a way to directly connect to the VATSIM server to eliminate the lag.

If you are connected to the internet thru a router, you need to open (or forward) the following ports to your computer IP on your local network so you can fly in multiplayer mode with all the toys:

Ports Type Application

23456 both fs9
23457 both fs9
6809 TCP Squawkbox3
3290 UDP Squawkbox3
8768 Both Teamspeak
6073 Both FSNet/CoPilot
47624 TCP DirectX
2300 - 2400 Both DirectX

Also turn off your routers' UPNP (universal Plug-N-Play) feature to allow these programs to work correctly.

I would refer to the manual that came with your router to find out how to configure the ports. If you no longer have it, you can likely find it online by doing a search for your router and model#.
